How can we field a more balanced team for test matches?

Our openers are not good? Dhawan I agree has a problem with good quality bowling attacks, but not Vijay.

one thing is for sure

we will be taking a much more solid team to the next round of SA-NZ-Eng-Aus overseas series.

i dont trust dhawan will be useful then, thats why better get rid of him during the 13 test matches we will be playing this year in WI and India

Even Vijay is a stopgap measure ,his only century in almost 2 years is against Bangladesh.Openers are extremely important in tests especially abroad.

An opener's main job is to see off the new ball and to me Vijay has the potential to do that and has shown the willingness to do that. He may not have scored a century for a while, but he seems to be a lot more assured in the crease.

Agreed completely. He and Rahul should be opening. Dhawan will play one flashy innings on a flat deck and then struggle tilll eternity if the ball swings even a little.

I think Dhawan is playing because there is a feeling in the team that he is a strokemaker who can make runs quickly. Till date, I don't see him being consistent though.

The answer is we can't until a proper all rounder emerges .

Until then the only option is trying to pick horses for courses option that Kohli is trying .

With no test series overseas for next two years we can manage with Ashwin at 6 or 7 with possibly be Jadeja for Ishant at 8 as well most likely play 3 spinners at home .

But we do need to find a better WK batsman than Saha before our tough overseas assignments start .

That's because he was mostly injured during Srl series and the pitches were poor for batting in SA series .He still was the second highest run getter for India in that series and only Rahane scored centuries in that series .

He scored century in Australia too. Also, we have not played too many tests since Aus tour. Also, how runs ones scores also depends on the surfaces he plays. We have low scoring games against SL and SA where 40s-50s were like 100s.
