Got the book today and was shocked within few seconds after reading the first page.

Looks like you got the Indian version. The cover on mine is different (he's in SA colours) and there's no blasphemous comment from Virat Kohli on the front! I imagine the contents are the same though.

 

Shocked but not surprised at how elitist the SA cricket structure is. Seems you have to go to private school to have any hope of making it. No decent level of club cricket to speak of and only young boys who are fortunate to go to a good school and eventually to university make it.

That's the case everywhere isnt it.  Non-elite kids will struggle to 'make it' in a sport that requires expensive infrastructure and equipment.  Problem for SA is that their class divide is also a race divide.

That is true. But in South Africa it seems even club cricket isn't a route into the professional game (same with rugby) it's literally just where you're educated, a bit like the south of England used to be. Fortunately you have a lot more coming through club cricket these days. Up here in the north, of course, it's always been about club cricket.
