JourneyMan Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 Hi guys, I will be traveling back to the motherland in a few weeks. Typically I bring foreign currency along and change it in India. Can I change as much as I like or do forex offices also have restrictions (ie 4000 inr per person)? Is there anything else that NRIs have to be aware of with the new rules? Also, if one has an NRI account in india can we withdraw more than 4k per day? Thanks a lot
Mariyam Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 You can withdraw upto 24000 Inr by writing a self check. If there is a wedding in your family , you can withdraw upto 2.5 lakhs. In Mumbai, the smaller Forex operators are making a beeline for the USD. They'd be more than happy to relieve you of your USD. I don't know about the exchanges at the airport. I returned a week ago and didn't happen to see any notification on an upper-limit. But I'm not too sure.

BeautifulGame Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 You can withdraw upto 24000 per week from your NRI account . That 4000 is for people who don't have bank account and exchange through counter . As for exchanging forex currency so there has been no communication from RBI so you can exchange upto any amount (CDF needed if amt exceeds USD 5000) but that amount will be credited to your account and same withdrawal limit of 24000 per week will apply . One more important thing if u are retuning only after 30th December and want to exchange old currency of 500/1000 , no need to panic .You can still exchange them with RBI.
mishra Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 I allways used my bank card to withdraw from ATM. Is there a limit on that

If the Bank card is used in the same Bank's ATM - Rs. 2500 (it gives the new Rs. 2000 note) which can't be used unless you make purchases close to Rs 1600+. Waste note. Better to withdraw 2000 and move around with 100s. mishra 1
