Has selectors learned anything from gambhir's failure?

I always thought, mukund could have been an opportunity. As expected, Gauti failed miserably. Expect some hardcore Gauti's fans, nobody expected anything out of him. If I were gauti, i would give up cricket ....because the last dismissal was incredibly miserable. Even Mcgrath or Walsh would have been ashamed of that dismissal.

Now, they are trying Pappu patel....I get the feeling that Kohli doesn't have much say on selection. I think, it's kumble who is driving all this nonsense....

Kumble was the one who was talking about "experience" when they selected Gauti.....

Gakgupta, for the records, Gambhir on comeback only failed against England. Did fine against New Zealand. So let's not hallucinate about Gambhir's selection calling, it disastrous, to put your point across about other selections. Gambhir was a temporary pick for few tests for the injured Murali/Rahul/Shikhar trio.

It is done and dusted.

Now talking about Patel's selection. That is where head's must roll as Naman Ojha should have been clear favorite and deserving since he is regular for India A and was battling with Saha initially when Saha got picked.

And regarding Mukund, I agree,  he could have been tried but selectors opted for someone like Gambhir who perhaps had little better numbere recently when NZ squad was being picked.

Don't worry about test opening pairs. They haven't been fixed. Rahul need to prove that he deserves to play as an.Indian test opener. We might soon see The-TN pair if Rahul continues to have his struggles against England pace attack.

I never used the word successful but used the word "fine"

He is averaging 40 in those numberssince you wanted to show me the numbers. You expected him to hit 100 in both theinnings?

I know you like Mukund but you can not keep mentioning Gambhir who did decent and was never going to be permanent selection. Hence he was sent back to Ranji once Rahul returned.

For Mukund to ever make it back to Indian team, Rahul needs to flop big time. I will stick with Murali Vijay for a while since he has played well for us overseas and such players like Vijay deserve to be give more chances even if they fail in few games.

Rahul, has earned his selection too but yet to prove that he is our permanent opener.

Not yet. Let him show some more consistency - right now, he's an "all-or-nothing" batsman.

Yeah, but with Dhawan out, Rahul was the one who was on waiting list and hence he had to fet the first chance before anyone else. But yeah, surely needs to have consistent numbers in home series.

With Kohli adapting to 5 bowler theory, we need the top order to click 8-10 times and hence Rahul needs to prove his consistency.

Not convinced with the 5 bowler theory either.

What you want go back to four? We will not use it everytime I am sure but it will happen a lot. Third spinner bowled really well here. Scored some runs too.

What else you need?

Naman has been injured and is only just back from Injury for MP -think he has had just one FC game, so it was between PP and Kartik. Otherwise Naman, who imk sure played once before when Saha was injured, would be the keeper. Partiv has been batting well this season, and apparently the selectors wanted a lefty in the lineup. It is not that bad a decision.

Realistically, it was far too early for Pant who has had just half a (admittedly excellent) FC season. Let him get a few more years of cricket and A team series under his belt. I don't know how good Samsons keeping is, but Partiv is regarded a better keeper than Dinesh

I agree regarding Gambhir, either Mukund or Herwadkar should have been in the squad.

Yes, agreed. But Pappu and DK are both terrible - might be better to go with the slightly better batsman (which I believe may be DK ). Besides, he is good buddies with Vijay - they should open and Rahul should bat at 6.
