These guys were way not just about Line n length, there was way more to them than that. Bhivi is never compared to Mcgrath. He hasn't even achieved much to be compared to Mcgrath. Bhuvi, in fact is considered by many posters here a better bowler in India on flat tracks than his competitor Umesh, that is the only difference Many, including me believee that Bhuvi is a much sensible line and length bowler who has more control compared to Umesh yadav kind of bowler who bowls lot of trash at times On contrary to your claims about some believing Bhuvi is like Mcgrath, In fact, people believe that Umesh Yadav is someone like Starc who will rip batting apart of the oppositions. Umesh has lotnofnwork to do be even compared to Starc. And in test matches, even on flat decks I will pick a bowler like Hazlewood over Starc, unlike the way many Starc supporters here want.
BeautifulGame Posted January 7, 2017 Posted January 7, 2017 Ambrose was my favourite bowler .He had the bounce and accuracy or McGrath and genuine pace as well.Unfair to put him and McGrath in same category. Loved watching him bowl. The perfect pace bowler. Muloghonto 1

He is not talking about achievement and efficiency but the difference in bowling styles of the 2 bowlers. McGrath was a tall pacer who hit the deck hard and got steep bounce and small seam movements. Bhuvi is a short pacer who floats the ball and depends on swing. Edited January 7, 2017 by express bowling

That is why I said, he can not be compared to Mcgrath and people are not comparing him. It is like saying, for example XYZ looks like Tendulkar when he is running between the wickets under pressure. No one is comparing XYZ to Tendulkar but just trying to indigate that he can run as fast and smart as Tendulkar. That all said, I think Bhuvi along with Shami and Bumrah, are the first tier bowlers of India. I will pick these bowlers ahead of others in different formats. This is regardless of the format:- Tier 1 - Shami, Bhuvi, Bumrah and spinners Ashwin and Jadeja Tier 2 - Umesh, Ishant and we could add more.

I was not talking about this being the only weapon in a bowler's repertoire. Oh. I thought you were saying they are all similar type of 'super accurate, fast/medium-fast (though Ambrose was genuinely fast in his youth) 4th stump bowlers with minimum movement' bowlers. Which McGrath, Ambrose, Hazlewood were. Just wanted to point out that Walsh was not really that type of a bowler- he relied more on peppering you with in swingers and then getting your wicket with the ball that held its line.

You mean they are right or wrong? Well even with the tier system as I see, players still got to be used based on the horses for courses situation as it is always the case is. But still sometimes we got to back the top tier bowlers even though the pitch might be handy for a bowler from tier 2. For example an ODI on a bouncy track. Ishant can get a good bounce, yet I will play Shami and Bumrah ahead of him as they can bowl good bounce and still overall give me a better chance of getting variations compared to Sharma who might be really good on the same pitch also but perhaps still might have less impact compared to Shami and Bumrah. It also depends on the form. If Shami is struggling, then there a chance we can think of playing another ODI bowler. This is just an example as of course Ishant is no where part of the ODI unit now.

Talking about pacers........ I don't think there is much doubt about Shami and Bumrah being tier 1 bowlers in ODIs .....they will play in almost all ODIs everywhere irrespective of the surface. Shami is also a Tier 1 bowler in test matches. That is about it as far as Tier 1 pacers go.

Control over your line and length is the most important aspect in tests even on flat pitches. With McGrath, it was bounce, not pace his weapon. That ball bounced from good length.
