Cricketics Posted January 14, 2017 Posted January 14, 2017 I liked this pitch. Pretty balanced and there was some assitance for the bowlers as well as good for bats. I loved this wicket and such wickets should be tried all over India for Ranji. Credit to the curator who doesn't usually get much credit for coming upnwith this beauty track. This to me was a much better than some of pitches used in the recent Indian test games. Shardul Thakur looked brilliant yesterday on Day 5 and pitch still had it in it for seamers and pretty much all through out 5 days. Need more of these. G_B_, express bowling and tweaker 3
BeautifulGame Posted January 14, 2017 Posted January 14, 2017 Simply don't agree. That pitch made Sandu and Nayar who bowls less than 120 look like world beaters . We need to find a balance in domestic cricket .Currently too many pitches in Ranji helps swing bowlers way too much.It doesn't help the winter season in North where majority of Ranji season is played. We need to produce pitches with more bounce less grass.Other we will continue to be filled with mediocre swing bowlers like Vinays and Sandus . tweaker 1
Cricketics Posted January 14, 2017 Author Posted January 14, 2017 ^Whenever pitches are half decent, good line and length bowlers who bowl decent line will look good. Sandhu bowls good line and length without much pacrand hence will be always taking wickets in Ranji since a lot of batsmen lack patienceagainst such bowlers. Even Iyer said that he needed to be more patient. New generation batsmen are influenced by 2020 and it is their test to curb their enthusiasm and stick it out all day and bat long. This is what Shaw and Iyer did not do this game, hence bowlers like Sandhu, Vinay will keep finding wickets and will always do good at doemstic level where there are good batsmen in every team with not that much temperament. tweaker 1
tweaker Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 (edited) The pitch used for the final was worthy of it.All the result were available for both the team after lunch on the final day. Shardul was trying to do too much,if he had bowled with the discipline of Sandhu ,he would have been able to take more wickets. His fielders also didn't help him too much. Parthiv ' strategy of bowling outside to offstump to Mumbai 's strokemakers was successful.Iyer fell trap to such tactics. Whereas Mumbai looked as it had came with no such plan. If Iyer wants to play at next level ,he should learn from his mistake .Next season all the teams will use this strategy against him. Mumbai should find some new pacers who should be able to bowl atleast at 130 kmph .Tare didn't have any confidence in his spinners on the 5th day that says a lot about their quality. Parthiv Patel played a heroic knock of 90 & 143 in this final. He really captained his young side very well inspite of absence of Axar & Bhumrah. Not really true. One a bouncy or turning track those sort of bowlers will be cannon fodders and no one say those pitches are not half decent tweaker 1

I mean Vinay Kumar is sitting out for a long time and Sandhu, won't be in the team either. Vinay Kumar has been taking loads of wickets even in other venues which did not have such pitches. These bowlers will keep pilong the wickets tally as players who bat against them in our domestic don't show much temperament. Those who show are the players like Vijay, Pujara, Rahane and hence they are the product of our domestic cricket who have gone on to represent India because of being the exceptional players who would play from trundlers to good bowlers, really well without giving it away easily.

I dont mind the Vinay Kumar type of bowlers getting success. They need these type of pitches also to develop our batsmen. But the problem, only these type of swing bowlers are getting real success,.We warent producing really good fast bowlers who can succeed in international cricket. As I earlier said we need few bouncy wickets to produce hit the deck bowlers and good fast bowlers. It has to be a two was process. ALso the likes of Sandhu and Nayar looking that threating on a 5th day wicket with their Mark Elham esque pace isnt that good viewing either

Even dibbly dobbly bowlers like James Hopes Moses Henriques etc taste success on different flat tracks or similar strip in Australia. Bouncy tracks can be created is another argument, but any track weather bouncy or not will give these bowlers more success at Ranji level regardless of the track.

I mean who has seen Sandhu that much? This is probably one of the first time I saw him bowl live in Ranji. He might be bowling similar pace to other medium trundlers, but again he still lacks the juice, which is the whole poin, and so do those Aussie bowlers for Test Cricket.

Hopes used to slow down a lot. I saw him bowling in 2003 and he was really young and that guy was never consistent in 130, he used to come in the middle and bowl just 4-5 at 120ish pace and then leave. Later as years progressed, he started bowling faster and got more overs as he was also utilized more as all rounder around 2006-07. But this wicket wasn't really too tough for bats. I mean lot of batsman scored runs. I think we need such pitches who bring seamers into the game, as even though trundlers might come in handy on this, the faster ones will and should benefit too and there is more pressure on them to perform and show what they got. We saw burst of Thakur and he looked good. Even bats scored freely in 2nd innings as you can see Mumbai piled the runs well and showed better temperament than first innings. This is one of the better strips. We shouldn't be complaining about it much. It gave both batsman and bowlers the chance to use their skills. Let trundlers enjoy the success, bats need to smarten up a bit and not give away their wicket easily.

Sandhu is a new ball bowler of powerhouse of Indian cricket. Those guys are alrounders. And this is not the first time people saw Sandhu bowl on TV. We have seen him plenty of times.

We are having a conversation about totally different thing. This pitch in Ranji was perfect for bat and ball and wasn't exactly hostile for batsmen even though it got trundlers in the game. This conversation is about how regardless of what pace you bowl, if you have skills to bowl decent line and length on regular basis which Sandhu and Vinay kumar do, they will be rewarded with wickets on any pitch in Indian domestic cricket. Kumar has been doing it for long time now. I don't think we can blame this pitch much. It is not that players found it tough here.

We rarely get flat pitch at Chinnaswamy stadium in domestic cricket. He too hasn't done well on flat tracks like at Hubli.

But then others should be doing good too, he stands out every time because he is bowling better than them and hence never gets dropped from his state side. He is their key bowler and will remain till he retires I guess because players at Ranji, not everyone shows temperament like Rahane, Pujara etc. Those who show, end up getting selected for India A, but how many of them get selected? Every team has few such players, some don't have any. Ranji tracks have been bowler friendly, even Bhajji was mad last year and shared his views, but that doesn't discount that batsmen need to show proper temperament too. Like this game here in Ranji final, which this thread is about, batsman did not take their chances in the first inning. Like Iyer said, he got impatient, it is not that pitch was like South African track that everyone had to adjust. It was an even contest pitch.

We are discussing about why bowlers like Vinay, and not only Vinay WILL KEEP playing for his state mostly. You just go too much by stats and read too much into the pitch. Don't you feel this pitch is balanced. I haven't seen a single comment of yours on pitch, but more on random stuff about how pitches are getting tough etc. How is this a bad pitch. This was an even contest pitch.

I have seen worse pitches in domestic cricket.

Delhi has played some of its games in toughest places to bat, plus if they stick to neutral venue, things might get more interesting starting next year.
