Sidhoni Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 No he isnt.Rohit is very good in ODIs even in swinging conditions. Rohit needs a Dhawan like partner to take the pressure off him while he starts off in a 15(30) fashion.

Yeah bu difference is he converts those starts into big hundreds. Rahane gets out in 30s and 40s even on his best days
Sidhoni Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 Dhawan will go after scoring 10runs. Not sure why he is being written off after 2 failures. Was Man of the tournament last CT at the same venue, our leading run scorer in WC 2015. Clearly he is a big tournament player.

Rahane gets out in 30s and 40s even on his best days Rohit's conversion rate is pretty awful as well, take NZ series where 4 of his 5 innings were in the 15(30) bracket. Also without a partner like Dhawan or maybe Rahul even Rohit will be a problem.

Has scored one 50 in last 15 innings(International plus Domestic.)

Thats tests and T20s .Pretty much moot discussing his ODI form.He has always been a mediocre test and T20 player and great ODI player. In his Last 6 ODI series he has averaged above fifty in four of them including world cup.In his last series he averaged 58 at a SR of 100 that too in Australia. So yes just 2 failures.

His overall form is very poor.Extremely poor.Struggled even in domestics.AUS series was a year back.

These are the stats for openers in last 3 years.Rohit has comfortably been the best opener in the world http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?batting_positionmax1=2;batting_positionmin1=1;batting_positionval1=batting_position;class=2;filter=advanced;orderby=batting_average;qualmin1=1000;qualval1=runs;spanmin1=22+Jan+2014;spanval1=span;template=results;type=batting

How many of those domestics were ODIs.Its a moot point how much he struggles in other formats he is an excellent player in ODIs.And more importantly our best tournament player. Was our best player in both CT and world cup, that alone should ensure his place for CT unless someone like Pant has an excptional IPL season.

Just the point I was trying to make. In any case, regardless of his partner he just doesn't give me confidence if there is a pressure situation like you mentioned while chasing. Obviously he will walk in to this team once fit though.

WC2011INDIA Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 All our openers seem to be out of form or injured. Dhawan - completely out of form Rahane - on good day can score 80+ otherwise when out of form can't last more than 10 balls. Rahul - very hit and miss type player. Either 100 or nothing. Rohit - injured but will come back with a bang in odis 300+ batting first...i am calling it.. Time to try Pant and Manish as openers...but i doubt Manish will be successful as an opener..he is suited for #4.

KL rahul is not made for ODI cricket. The kind of lottery batsman he is, he does not deserve to be in the test side either. Murali Vijay and Tailunt should be our best openers. It's a shame because tailunt is also shite against the swinging ball and raw pace. Lol Murali vijay?
Texan Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 We should not take these openers to CT, probably only Rahul is worth giving a chance for CT. Rohit should open with Pant. We need at least one opener who will go after the bowling from ball 1. Pandey should be the back-up opener.
