maniac Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 (edited) Now before geniuses start pointing out our win in the 2nd ODI...that was a rare instance but more often than not we seem to lose the plot when we are batting first. Chasing is a different animal altogether-forget ATG's like Dhoni or Kohli...even newbies like Jadhav or Pandey will up their game and win it more often than not chasing but when batting first we go into our shell. Even Bangladesh almost pulled it off against us chasing in that famous WT20 game. This is nothing to do with our bowlers losing it defending runs,it is more often than not our batting gives us sub-standard totals while defending. We need players who play in one way regardless of the situation. The England openers,Warner etc will play their natural game no matter what.....time we induct some fearless youngsters who will attack from ball 1 regardless of what the situation is. BeautifulGame Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 That's because we have rubbish openers in T20 wasting the powerplay. Hence regardless of how much Kohli or other middle order bats tries , we still ends up with a target below par. How can we win a T20 match with the likes of Rohit Sharma and Rahane gobbling up power plays at a strike rate of 100. Bystander 1
sandeep Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 Another brilliant Captain Obvious insight. This was pointed out before the T20 world cup last year, and even at the start of 2015 WC. Old news. Unfortunately, new captain has not shown any signs of taking any remedial measures yet. But given his good learning curve demonstrated on the test side. I'm still hopeful.

We don't have that issue in ODIs .We were excellent batting first in 2015 world Cup Infact .Mainly because Rohit (in particular) and Dhawan are excellent openers batting first . This problem is solely confined to T20s.Because our openers here sucked for a long time in T20s .

While teams like England are routinely putting up 70, even if they lose a wicket early. We are usually about 25 runs short in the 1st 15 overs, and that's why we don't post 350 as often as say England/Aus/SA. We do it in spite of the slow starts, on a day where someone goes really big. But its rare. Not a default, like it is for the top ODI batting units. The problem is more visible in T20, but exists in ODI as well. I have been posting about this since 2015.

Our slow starts haven't been an issue in the world 2015 as you mentioned . We won all the matches we batted first in the 2015 world Cup. Yes it has been an issue siñce then but not the major issue until we started to try Rahane as opener.Since 2015 world Cup our major issues has been the big hitting in the middle order.Often in the AUS series we will set up really well but middle and lower will crumble.Which we looks to be solving with Jadhav and Pandya.
BeautifulGame Posted January 29, 2017 Posted January 29, 2017 First 3 overs 15 runs.Another match another powerplay wasted. We are playing T20s with ODI mindset
Sidhoni Posted January 29, 2017 Posted January 29, 2017 First 3 overs 15 runs.Another match another powerplay wasted. We are playing T20s with ODI mindset I think we had around 45 in 6? That's not a complete waste.

Malcolm Merlyn Posted January 29, 2017 Posted January 29, 2017 We dont have the openers to set us up.Rohit will solve one side of that issue.Need another person desperately.

We scored 30 runs from overs 4-6.Definitely possible to score that in first three overs too. Edited January 29, 2017 by BeautifulGame

Sidhoni Posted January 29, 2017 Posted January 29, 2017 Record dekh lo bhai. That record is due to the innings where he changes gears after he gets set. In powerplay he is not going to solve any issue.
