Dude, they inherited massive stretch of quality agricultural land, much smaller population base, and tons of aid and loans for selling out to the US as "most allied ally".   Instead of building on that, they were too busy playing soldier, soldier trying to defeat India.  Now in spite of being in massive debt, they waste massive chunks of their budget buying chinese pataake.   Its a cultural thing, since their "independence", those that have come to power, influence or money, have not been on the strength of merit or achievement - its been various forms of goonda-ism, whether in military flavor or otherwise.  The mafia mentality is to consolidate one's turf, and fight against potential usurpers - i.e other goondas, not build and invest in it.   Never going to lead to progress unless massive changes are made.

you must have read, chinese media and opinion leaders are planting the seeds for direct involvement later. Apparently because of the debt situation they are foreseeing a high risk of debt spiral and inability to finance it eventually, so advocating preventive measures ( read direct involvement ) in securing profitability of the energy projects and steep initial costs. Pakistan is done its is a province of China, its utterly important that India does some maneuvering however hopeless the situation is with Russian pet in one side and the pak province China will totally own India. the project the size of cpec going through the terrain like pak India can easily create a few liabilities along the way, making it too much to service the increasing debt. Anyways thats a topic for an other thread an other time.

This has been Umar Akmal's whine for years now.  Instead of focusing on the opportunities that he has gotten, and maximizing them, he's always been too busy looking for reasons (external to him of course) why he isn't successful.   Guy with his mentality doesn't deserve to be in a Ranji team, forget national.  But for the drought of international class batting in Pakistan, he would be nowhere.

And in a way, its emblamatic of Pakistan as a country as well.  They still feel in their weird inferiority-superiority complex, that if not for xyz _____ fill in the blank reason, they would be so much better than India - economically or by any other metric.  The fact that they've pissed away the resources and advantages that they had, just doesn't seem to sink in.

It all boils down, essentially, to a lack of accountability at all levels.
