Ashwin's shameless selfishness continues to cost us

It would be an interesting statistic to look at. How many times India have used DRS successfully and unsuccessfully from the time we accepted it and what percentage of those were off the bowling of Ashwin.

More than any bowler in the team, Ashwin always wants a review almost every time Kohli obliges. There were atleast 2 reviews in this match which were clearly not out, yet Ashwin forced the review. This is costing India big time. Not just this match, even in the past few series I have been observing (although I dont have stats to prove), that Ashwin wants even half chances reviewed.

Did anyone else shares this view?

Not ashwin``s fault bowler will always plead for wicket

Kohli needs to take stand  by consulting close in fielder ,WK etc and make his own judgement.

Exactly Fully agree its the job of wicket keeper and a bowler in case of Drs what can poor captain do?? Its an absolutely illogical to blame captain if drs went wrong poor kohli getting all the blame is beyond me..

Thats a whoppig 40%. Thanks NST for pulling out the stats.

While one can argue that Ashwin bowls more overs and creates more chances than the others, its still a lot. He just acts like a adamant child who wants the daddy to buy him every toy that he sees on the shop window. Atleast Dhoni could have kept him in check. With Kohli, there is no way he is denying Ashwin, which doesn't augur well.

Even Jadeja always looks 200% convinced and forces Kohli. That's where Saha and close in fielders come in and Kohli should follow their advice more than the bowler's.

As a bowler you want wickets. There is no arguing that. But you cant be wasting reviews. Today, there was a review, where the ball hits the bat first, and Ashwin would have seen it very clearly, still he went for the review, because he had some support from other fielders. He should have told the guys - hey I dont think this review is going to be successful. Lets save it for later. Stupid guy.

Not as much as Ashwin does. Also, Kohli is able to deny Jadeja and not Ashwin.

So its a combination of Ashwin's selfishness and Kohli's inability to keep it under check

One thing that came to my mind today was - for first 50 overs, go for a review only if its a howler and all those around the wicket and the bowler unanimously think it is out. Even if one person thinks he is unsure (Kohli has to remember that no one is going to say 100% not out, instead they will only say 'I'm not sure'), then dont go for the review.

After 50 overs, take chances with reviews, even when you are not sure. This is for the First innings.

Second innings could be based on match situation, whether the inning will go beyond 80 overs or not

They are both equally stubborn IMO.

Today with the review of Marsh where ball hit his pad and shoulder, Karun at FSL was trying to convince Kohli to not take the review but he went ahead anyway.

Saha doesn't ask for review even when he is confident like Marsh call on Yadav's bowling. He appealed confidently but didn't review.

Well Kohli doesn't even look at him in most cases. Like that Marsh call you are talking about.

That is how it is meant to be used anyway, only for overturning the obvious howlers. DRS should only be used if the umpire had clearly given a wrong decision maybe due to a lapse in concentration, but everyone else saw otherwise. Anything else is plain abuse of the system.

There is no excuse for professional sportsmen to not think objectively and show restraint. But even after regularly blowing away their reviews they continue to act like a bunch of morons. Incorrigible!

The morons or the partners in crime here are just 3-4 players. Kohli, Ashwin, Jaddu, Saha, anyone around the bat. Most times its Kohli / Ashwin combo that goofs it up. Its like the Jaya / Sasikala combo in TN that destroyed us

True and agree completely. There are times you use it tactically. So my suggestion is to do your tactics after 50 overs have passed, where the risk can be minimized. If you lose both your reviews under 20 overs, there is no redemption.

This is where senior captains would have been helpful... with Kohli they just go and demand for a review.. seniors would have told him NO for rubbish once.

Team atleast needs 1 senior Test or LOIs

Dhoni is saving Drs calls in LOIs since we don't have any seniors in that Team.. Ashwin needs to step up and Saha from behind isn't helping either clueless guy

Simply put, Kohli needs to find a player who he can trust. Not the bowlers for sure. And also try to develop some reasoning ability himself.
