Mukund did well in the first inning, didn't spend much time in the 2nd .... would you persist with him or get Yuvi in (to tame Board, and get some useful overs to exploit the rough) and open with Dravid .... From what I understand, Sehwag could be coming back from 3rd test so we will hopefully have our regular openers for the last two tests My line up: Dravid GG Tendulkar (if Dravid moves up, he should move up too rather than Laxman, who normally bats below him) laxman Raina Yuvi Dhoni Zak PK / Mishra Ishant Sree

Are you guys kidding. Mukund is an opener and in his 4th test, and whats more he made a pretty well made 49 in the first dig. He is going to learn from these experiences, we need to stick with him. No changes to the XI unless enforced.

This cannot be a serious thrad. Mukund did very well in the 1st innings. He needs to sort out his tendency to inside edge a lot of shots but apart from that i have been impressed by him.

Would prefer specialist opener too but don't know if it is worth persisting with Mukund .... I know there was a time when many people were rooting for Jaffar over Sehwag on that trip to Aus. Obviously I wanted Sehwag even for the series against Pak, which preceded the Aus series .... Jaffar supporters obviously thought how wrong I was. What was surprising that even Jaffar had supporters :P I am just hoping that Mukund isn't another Jaffar. I didn't see him bat in the first so pardon my lack of knowledge about him but in the 2nd he didn't impress in his short stay. Seems to be late on the ball. Don't know if it is worth persisting with him in an imp series like this one over someone like Yuvi, who may not be a great test player but could provide more value :dontknow: Appears as if many of you think Mukund is good enough, which makes me nervous. Not long ago Badri and Vijay were rated highly too

Bhajji will not be dropped' date='only change will be Sree or Munaf in place of Zak (if he is not fit)[/quote'] +1. might see Dominica attack again. its quite clear what dhoni thinks about sree i would prefer sree though

I dont want Bhajji for 2nd test but Mishra is crap too so i hope Mishra or Bhajji or both of them get injured and Ojha comes in the picture lol
Please refrain from wishing injuries on players.

Our expectations are a bit low when it comes to picking up bowlers. mediocrity gets respected .... As I said on the other thread, for tests, you need to have at least most of the qualities below: Quicks: bowl 'really' quick, be able to swing, reverse and create an awkward bounce for the batsman Spinners: have control, ability to flight and use brains, have variety Appears as if for us the ability to bowl line and length and keep runs down play a role in picking bowlers for tests. Let's look at our stock: 1. Zak: bowl at decent pace, swing, reverse, at times create an awkward bounce 2. Sree: bowls quick. swing, reverse, awkard bounce 3. Ishant: bowls quick, awkward bounce 4. PK: swing 5. Munaf: ? 6. Bhajji: throws darts (control) 7. Mishra: flight Except for Zak, Sree and Ishant, others only have 1 decent quality for tests. And we are likely to pick those bowlers with less qualities (probably because they did better in other formats) over some who are more suited for tests

Sree in Zaheer out rest same. Zaheer is not match fit and Mukund will get better.
Would you play UV instead of Harby? If not why not?

Why dont they bring someone else if Zaheer wontbe fit? RP Singh wontbe a bad choice.
RP isn't the same he was back then, he had a lot of pace back then, he was rubbish even in this years IPL. Its just that people are watching the videos of last series and want RP to be back.

Pace doesn't matter that much if you can pitch it up and swing the ball which RP can. He definitely is worth taking a risk on.

Abhinav Mukund Gautam Gambhir Sachin Tendulkar Rahul Dravid VVS Laxman Suresh Raina MS Dhoni Praveen Kumar Amit Mishra Ishant Sharma S Sreesanth This is the ideal combination guys. Harbhajan must make way for young blood and Zak definitely needs to be rested to ensure he can play in 3rd and 4th test. This is Sreesanth's lifeline. If he doesn't perform, toss him back to a gulley competition in Kerala. Mukund should continue opening. He is perfectly fine. Let him gain some experience. He is much better than Murali Vijay.

I would go with the same team, maybe one last chance to Harbhajan in place of Mishra but I'm fine either way.

oh my god... the creator of this thread.... OFCOURSE MUKUND.... sure bring Yuvi in, but WHY in place of MUKUND?..
As a replacement for? Unfair to drop Raina even if he fails in the second innings. He deserves 2 tests atleast imo.

^ agree with hellraiser... though I can't help wondering when on earth Sehwag will be bloody fit already. We're seriously missing him. Sree in place of Dartbhajan. Everytime I watch Swann bowl, I'm reminded of how much Bhajji sucks at present. Hope he bounces back, even his body language is so abysmal.

Yuvi in test matches in England is a walking wicket. He cant play swing to save his life. Plays too much away from the body and doesnt have patience either. He is fantastic in ODIs but test match player he is not.

Pace doesn't matter if you can bowl in mid 130s vs someone who is bowling in 140s or even express, if you have the right skills .... but if you talk about bowling sub 130s, then pace does matter esp. once the ball gets old and you need to reverse

We'll Win the 2nd Test and Square the series. We won in 2007 at the same Venue, I think we can do it again. But a Lot will depend on Zaheer Khan's availability. We wont lose anymore test in the series.
