Don't think they bumped into each other very often. In lot of matches Dhoni didn't even face Steyn 34 balls bowled to him in all matches. Dhoni made 34 runs off of him losing his wicket once to him.
which at death is reasonable for bowler now a days no ? u cant really say dhoni had upper hand.. it all depends on situation team is in.. im just saying u cant call it tie ...steyn will get dhoni always in tests but in odis it depends on situation so its not a tie imo

This discussion popped up after his onslaught on Steyn in crunch time in the IPL. So i am afraid you have to include their IPL meeting as well. Steyn is Steyn. Dhoni is DHoni. they don't change personalities because it is IPL.

18.1 Steyn to Dhoni, 1 wide, now this is certainly a wide, he slides down lwg 18.1 Steyn to Dhoni, FOUR, Bang! Steyn pitches it up and Dhoni stays at the crease and clubs it over his head, that sends the ball scorching down to the boundary 18.2 Steyn to Dhoni, FOUR, fires in a screeching full toss and Dhoni swings and gets a thick outside edge which races down to third man 18.3 Steyn to Dhoni, SIX, the carnage gets worse for Steyn as he stays back to a pitched up delivery and slogs it across the line over deep midwicket, that was brute power 18.4 Steyn to Dhoni, FOUR, pitches this one a lot fuller and Dhoni drags that from outside off and beats deep midwicket, the timing wasn't the best but it was the power which sent the ball scorching 18.5 Steyn to Dhoni, FOUR, and now we have a misfield! Dhoni drives that firmly down to Chipli at long-off but he mistimes his dive and the ball slips past him 18.6 Steyn to Dhoni, 1 run, full on middle and leg, he creams this straight to long-on, that's 24 off the over! This was 2008 IPL

problem is i dont count this format ur comparing ipl with tests thats where things got weird if u asked me who will u back in ipl i will say dhoni but if u ask me if performing in ipl makes him equal to steyn then hell no:finger: being better here does not equates to steyn being much much better then him in tests:icflove:

It is not international clash we are discussing about. It is we are discussing about One on One clash .. forget about formats. Ball vs Bat. pure and simple. Death overs.

I think he was comparing IPL with ODIs. There is no doubt in Tests.

its not like that in real world in tests one on one steyn will eat him alive pitch matters, conditions matters and format too with 6 slips standing and steyn swinging from leg stump would it be fair ? thats how it is for dhoni in ipl on super flat roads at death.. over all being superior in tests is much much better then being superior at end in ipl moreover even in ipl if ball was new or if conditions helped him a bit steyn wil again get dhoni out for fun sorry but its not competition only guy hwo played well steyn at his best was tendulkar that was fascinating one on one.. lately clarke vs steyn is just as good imo also kp is up thereo n his day but other then that its steyn

Dhoni will piss his pants when Steyn runs in during the test matches bowling at 140+ with the ball swinging. His hand eye coordination and wrists allows him to play spectacular shots on IPL tracks with true bounce and no lateral movement. Wont work in swinging conditions

Dhoni averages 36.84 in the test matches he has played against Steyn. :hmmm: In South Africa played 5 tests has scored 283 runs. That may not be breathtaking. But not pathetic as well. considering how his peers did there. Until last series Tendu also averaged 32 in SA. Steyn is a GOAT. HE has made look like kids even some great batsmen. So it is not overwhelmingly pathetic as you imply here.

Dhoni did decently last time in SA against Steyn and co tbh. Scored than 90 odd in 2nd inn along with Sachin and in the the Durban test he was the 2nd best bat from India after Laxman. Hardly the walking wkt u are referring him to.Think apart from the 8-0(where every one bar odd bat was awful) he has always been decent overseas particularly for a wk bat from sub-continent But Haterz gone hate

Dhoni destroys Steyn in limited overs. In tests and first-class however Steyn takes him out, unless dhoni starts to play like an odi/t20 game which is unlikely. But Dhoni has improved in tests, so we'll so how he does in SA this year.

We'll see about Dhoni's record in SA this time without our in form openers and middle order that was there last time around. :giggle: Lets see how he does coming in at 100-4 instead of 300-4

odis when? give me link of match only important odi match i remember was world cup:hysterical:
gLg--CH0om8 That's the Youtube link I could find. There was this post by Slick having all videos so far. In ODIs, T20Is and IPL, Dhoni has always come out on top against Steyn.

That post is contradictory actually. When there was a stronger middle order, by the time Dhoni came in it was nearly 80 overs. So he had to face Steyn with the new ball and he has done a fairly good job compared to his teammates who are considered specialist batsmen.
