Manny_Pacquiao Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 There's a saying that goes: you never judge a house by its curtains. If the BJP was a house, the curtains would be secular, the furniture, anti-minority. It's ironic how the BJP supporters antagonise opposition as being pseudo-secular, while they themselves use secularism as nothing but a punchline. Makes you wonder, who are the real pseudo-seculars? Uniform civil code is nothing but a stick to beat minorities with, a ruse to infringe upon an indian's freedom to practice their religion. Protesting reservations, nothing but a stick to beat lower-castes with, a ruse to deny them right to education and employment. Absurd meat bans and dress codes, nothing but a stick to police morality, a ruse to infringe upon an Indian's freedom of expression and choice of lifestyle. All of this while drawing up the secular curtains. Meanwhile, any minority empowerment is viewed as a threat and any attempt to cater to those that are the bottom of society is brushed off as 'anti-national'. Minority 'appeasement' has to be a terrible thing, because majority 'appeasement' is now officially the flavor of the day. The notion of pseudo-secularism proudly struts around as anti-secularism. The actual idea of secularism, not even worth the piece of paper it's written on - a cheapened idea for which there are no buyers. "Go to Pakistan, Go to Saudi Arabia"...Sounds familiar? Sure, it does. India is now adopting the principles of a country meant to be governed as a theocracy. Ironically, the BJP have become the very people they claim to despise. India has become Saudi Arabia, India is becoming a Taliban-run Afghanistan, a Zia-run Pakistan. "Go back to Pakistan", you'll say again...to which i'll answer, why should i? I'm already there. Substitute your mullahs and muttawas with sanghi sadhus and gau rakshaks, and you'll find we're already in the same moral neighborhood - one where day to day life functions in the same way. What's worse is that we're headed down a path of no return, our secular foundations and principles slowly being torn up, while marching towards an upper caste wet dream of a hindu rashtra. And its truly saddening. Really makes me wonder whether i'll ever be able to return to my country. Do i even have an India to return to? Muloghonto, Book_Worm and Crookbond 3
zen Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 (edited) Depending upon our perception, we can see parties in different colors .... However, the great thing about Ind is that it is a secular country What it means that you or me, may or may not be secular or be entitled to our beliefs, but the constitution of the country is secular Let's remember that it is the Hindus ànd people of Ind origin religions that have made and kept the country secular Edited March 30, 2017 by zen

Everyone knows EXACTLY what this party is all about. If you choose to ignore the danga fasad that comes with majoritarian politics because you're too enticed by 'development' and 'job growth', then you're clearly showing your priorities. You're showing me what you choose to ignore. It's not about the party, its about you. I don't want 'development' at the expense of minority empowerment. Actually, let me make it simpler - i don't want 'development' while innocents die in riots. Yes, we have a secular constitution...which nobody seems to give a **** about. That's what i meant by saying that the idea isn't worth the paper its written on. Really makes you wonder about this country's future. Crookbond, Muloghonto and North Sea Tiger 3

If the idea is not worth the paper it is written on, Ind would not have been such since 1947 .... But you are entitled to your opinion about the situation having changed over night Note that danga fasads used to happen when minority appeasement was on too. Many folks did not see it as a threat then but with the perception of majority uniting, some folks are now seeing them in a different light .... btw, there was some data shown on one of the threads suggesting that more innocent ppl have lost life under communist party's rule in WB and INC elsewhere On development, my idea is different and more in line with focus on green economy, social development, and sustainability!

Yes, because most Indians think 'democracy = tyranny of the majority = manmaani of the majority'. Whatever majority wants, no matter how unsubstantiated, how nonsensical and how tyrannical, give it to them. perfect example is with the beef ban. Nothing more than Sharia-style Pork ban 'coz a book from iron age, written by men who know less about life than my 10 year old daughter says so'. In hinduvta's case, its not even a book, its just 'reeti-rewaaj'. So yes, majoritarian politics where inalienable rights of freedom are not respected, is to be worried about and feared. And it is an entirely different scenario than minority appeasement politics. Crookbond, North Sea Tiger and Book_Worm 3

I'm sorry, but everything i mentioned is based on real-time news i'm reading. No false impressions. Are the slaughterhouses being 'banned', or they being vandalised by mobs? http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/meat-shops-burnt-vandalised-in-hathras/article17574402.ece I would think that this is a breakdown in law and order. What is 'good' about wrecking somebody's business? And let's question the motive - is ILLEGALITY the main issue here? If so, why aren't these guys attacking illegal vegetable stands, illegal paan shops, illegal housing? Why SPECIFICALLY target butcher shops owned by certain communities? We both know damn well this has nothing to do with slaughterhouses being 'illegal'. The shiv sainiks are asking for KFCs in gurgaon to be shut down, are they illegal? Opposing talaq is good? As if hindu BJP supporters have suddenly become experts on islamic law. Let the muslims decide on triple talaq, that's their belief system. Anti-romeo squads? LMAO, if some chxhtiya gau rakshak came up to me and my girlfriend while we were minding our own business, i'd tell him to * himself. and so would you. These actions have one objective, and one objective only - to IMPOSE a certain lifestyle and belief system on EVERYONE, against their will. They want people to conform to a kattar hindutva idealogy, and they are empowered by a government which believes in it. And Amazingly enough, as stated in the first post, this is EXACTLY what we see in countries like Saudi Arabia or zia-era Pakistan. This is the direction we're headed in. asterix Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 Do veg sellers have to get hygiene and waste disposal certificates from authorities to continue their business? What health hazard veg contamination pose as compared to meat related contaminations? Although BJP appears to be overdoing it and might be giving chance to the intolerance brigade to create a misinformation campaign. Not required at this early stages. There should've been a gradual implementation of rules and regulation. Provide alternative or regular sources of meat from legal abattoirs. Advertise them. Inform public from where to source the meat. Provide enough cattle to those legal enterprises to cater the demand. But RSS has been impulsive in many cases. This is one of them. Being a conspiracy theorist I believe BJP is doing this as diversionary tactics and people are falling for it. They have made a huge promise of forgoing the farmer loans in the first cabinet meeting. BJP can't do it. No cabinet meeting too so far. If BJP dies it then it has to do the same in other states. It's a Pandora's box.

What next, killing muslims is a way of preventing salmonella outbreak? WAS THE DADRI LYNCHING a way of containing 'meat related contaminations'? Come on, we both know exactly what this is all about. You're giving them a huge benefit of the doubt here. Its almost like saying that Republican party rules on voter restrictions are meant to prevent election fraud: no, we know exactly what that means - they don't want black people to vote. And that's exactly what happens. You judge a policy based on its OUTCOME. Not based on what they say it's 'intended' to achieve. and i take issue to your use of the term 'intolerance brigade'...LOL, what is THAT supposed to mean? Intolerance brigade? so 'brigading' for people to be tolerant is a bad thing? Crookbond 1

Tibarn Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 (edited) Whoever made these laws is pseudo-secular. Of course if OP read Prof. Balu or Prof. De Roover's books, then he/she would know that secularism is just the imposition of Christianity on Hindus. Someone is butt-hurt that the west reformed themselves and hinduvta is still still stuck in stone age and is just a poor imitation of Islam. Jacob DeRoover is a fool...much like golwalkar and savarkar, dealing with distortion of history to draw spurious conclusions. If 'liberal secularism' was only applicable to christian societies, millions of hindus,Sikhs and Buddhists would not be fitting into it seamlessly in the west. Edited April 4, 2017 by Muloghonto
