Another few years like this will put Kohli at 49+ centuries in a significant less time, which will put Kohli in a completely different league.

Did you even watch cricket in the 90s? Playing conditions are completely different now, comparing stats at face value is heights of stupidity, kohli is currently matching sachin's peak of the 90s but he needs to continue the same for a few years to match or surpass sachin, it won't put him in different league

Here's some interesting stats comparison for both after 205 ODIs:

Sachin

MATCHES 205 INNINGS 198 NO 19 RUNS 7593 HS 143 AVG 42.41   SR 86.08 100s- 20 50s- 43

Kohli

MATCHES 205 INNINGS 197 NO 34 RUNS 9348 HS 183 AVG 57.34   91.89 100s-34

50s- 45

Sachin only has Kohli beat on SR. He played his first ODI in 1989 and 205th ODI in 1998 so I would put an average SR of 86 during that time at around 105 in today's terms. Kohli's got Sachin on everything else, quite comfortably. You can say Sachin faced better bowlers , opened the batting for the majority of that time,  faced a reversing ball more often, but when you account Kohli's significant better chasing than Sachin( at least 5x), I'm gonna say Kohli has surpassed Sachin as an ODI batsman.

Except for the fact that SRT sucked as a middle-order batsman. He began opening around 75 matches into his career. You mentioned that Sachin has VK beat in SR, but that isn't true (86 vs 92).

CTs Kohli overwhelms Tendulkar by wide margin, Tendulkar went missing from CTs.34 hundreds in 204 matches is not just great it is almost Bradmanesque. Tendulkar is not even picture now when compared to this guy.He is best Indian test captain and best odi player .

It is just matter of time Kohli rectifies two anomalies in his resume. Test series in England and World cup knock centuries. He is too good a player.

yes, this is a good point indeed. On Avg*SR, ABDV edges him out in the 5 yr span you selected.

Kohli is just half way through sachin's run tally, it will take another few years of consistency by kohli to surpass sachin the odi batsman, you guys are too easily influenced by the recency bias

57 vs 42 average.. consistency:cantstop:

Honey boo boo I know its hard to accept it for a bhakt like you.. He is already miles ahead. He is winning a series in RSA with his bat.. What ODI series did your gawddd ever win against big teams away in their country ?

Poor MTC tried his luck with CB series.. Turned out Gambo was the highest scorer and Praveen kumar was the MOM in one of the Finals.

2002 Natwest - Turns out Dravid was the highest scorer:cantstop:

CTs Kohli overwhelms Tendulkar by wide margin, Tendulkar went missing from CTs.34 hundreds in 204 matches is not just great it is almost Bradmanesque. Tendulkar is not even picture now when compared to this guy.He is best Indian test captain and best odi player .

It is just matter of time Kohli rectifies two anomalies in his resume. Test series in England and World cup knock centuries. He is too good a player.

Tendulkar in CT 2002

5 4 2 39 16 19.50 87 44.82

34 100s in 197 innings = slightly less than 6 innings per 100. This rate is higher than many of his contemporaries, but Amla has virtually the same record.

Bradman scored a 100 every 2.7 innings or so. Smith is the closest I can think of, and he scores at around 4.8 an innings.

Kohli also scored 49 runs in 6 innings vs Aus at home. He will need to improve his record on that front as well. These are the three areas he needs to fix (you covered the other 2) to be a complete player.

this is a good indictaor , but we have to compare the peaks of other players as well ..

timeframe you selected is sachins peak and kohlis peak ..

sachins peak wont coincide with vuvs peak .. but probably kohli and abdv peak sort of coincides so far

And he will also exit out of his prime, just as Amla is currently doing. Amla has a 100 every six innings (just like Kohli) despite the fact that he is clearly fading. Amongst others, de Kock has a 100 every 7 innings. Because we are seeing Kohli's purple patch, naturally his numbers look skewed. The same issue arose with SRT in 2002 when his Test avg was around 59. I remember Wisden (or some other cricket magazine) carrying out a naive and erroneous extrapolation based on his form over the past 4-5 yrs, and claiming that he would end with a Test avg of around 65-70.

Hence, in discussing current players, the effects of recency bias should not be ignored. As of now, there is no doubt that Kohli is the best ODI bat in the world, and that he will easily be amongst the frontrunners for the GOAT. We have to see for how long he sustains this run of form.

Did you even watch cricket in the 90s? Playing conditions are completely different now, comparing stats at face value is heights of stupidity, kohli is currently matching sachin's peak of the 90s but he needs to continue the same for a few years to match or surpass sachin, it won't put him in different league

Actually, I didn't compare stats at face value- I adjusted his SR AND even listed many arguments to justify his numbers. You must not like to read. In ODIs, the fact is while sachin was an excellent ODI player, Kohli is a genius.

Sachin is ahead in Tests. Kohli hasn't scored everywhere yet.

His argument is retarded.. like you already said not everyone peak at same time..  From one side he claims sachin faced quality bowling that's why he took 70+ innings to get his 1st 100 and his average and SR is low..Then he takes stats from 1998 to 2003 and compares that to 2013 to 2018.

Stick with one thing atleast..:cantstop:  I like the way he excluded 2012 when Kohli has 5 100s alone lmao

No his numbers are not skewed at all, he will stay in his prime for at least couple of years. If he scores 5 hundreds per year, he will be already reaching Tendulkar. What more can anyone want from him.

He has already scored 12 hundreds as Odi captain in 44 matches.Captaincy has elevated his batting to next level.

This notion that Tendulkar somehow faced far superior bowlers and dominated them is totally ridiculous.Mcgrath owned him like anything.I cannot recollect any innings of worth against Ambrose.Pakistan he was consistent flop till he rectified to some extent after Akram retired to be fair to Tendulkar he never faced Akram that much.

Only great team he scored hundreds was Australia minus Mcgrath that too in Asia.He was iffy against SA also except one hundred I don't recollect him doing much against them away. It took Tendulkar 2007 to score hundred against Australia in Australia by that time Mcgrath was long gone.

This is not a good way to measure things. You can get a dearth of talent in a certain timeframe, where there may only be 1 or 2 great players.

How many male tennis players were good around Sampras' peak? Compare that with Federer who's had to fight with excellent players like Nadal, Djokovic, and Murray to stay ahead( tennis' golden generation).

If you take your type of reasoning, you could say Sampras was a better player that Federer because he was more dominant amongst his peers. This would be a foolish argument.

You can wake up people who are sleeping, not those who are acting to be asleep. This glorifying the past and all this nostalgia and hype that people create is just a personal bias and a way to be in denial.

Kohli, Smith and few others have done plenty to be considered equal or better than what we saw in 90s.

Smith in ODIs or Smith in Tests? In the latter, he is a genuine ATG but not yet there in ODIs (apart from the 2015 WC).
