Umpiring in the Perth test

Recommended Posts

Decided to make this thread because there is a lot of stuff floating around trying to tell us how we got the better of umpiring at Perth and making comparisons with Sydney. Sydney was not about umpiring errors only but procedural breakdowns. Moving on to umpiring at Perth, there were mistakes made by umpires but they were not biased or favored one side. For every Symonds leg before there was a Tendulkar leg before as well. Ponting got away not once but twice with leg before calls against Ishant Sharma. Dhoni was clearly sawed off. It was not one way street as some are trying to portray and use that misrepresentation of facts to sully the Indian win and challenging the intellect of the cricket fan by trying to weigh Perth with Sydney on the umpiring front.

Umpiring errors were pretty even in this test. The Symonds lbw will of course stick in the mind of certain observers because it happened at the business end of the game when the stakes seemed at their highest. So what? Sydney on the other hand was one of the worst cases of sport adjudication ever seen. Steve Bucknor has an issue with the India. Have you read Peter English's peice in Cricinfo? It's abhorrent!

Exactly. The casual observer does not look at the match in its whole. That is why things like the Symonds leg before or the Sreesanth leg before at Lords are talked about when in both cases India had their share of decisions going against them as well.

so far it's 3-3 wonder why are people complaining in this fair world.. or is it customary for fairness for the scoreline goof-ups to read as 11-2

Exactly. The decesions in perth tests were Genuine mistakes... There is just now way u can compare the two tests ( Sydney v/s Perth ) w.r.t umpiring. I can understand Asad Rauf giving LBW to sachin, hussey, dhoni. This guy is from pakistan and was officiating his first test match at Perth (the ball bounces a foot more thn it does in any other part of the world). Even top batsman find it tough to ajdust to the pace and bounce of perth ..this guy is a poor umpire and that too from pakistan where the ball hardly bounces above knee level(:giggle:). And he was coming from srilanka where he umpired in four matches..we all know how slow and low the pitches in srilanka are. The ones which he gave out (which were going over the top by 1-inch) might hve been OUT on other sub-continental pitches. So, there is noway this can be called a bais..it was asad's inabilty to adjust to pace and bounce (which can happen ). Abt the symonds dismissal, it was almost same like that of ponting in the 1st innings(againt bhajji). He went on the back foot to a ball that came fast and straight. If u go on the backfoot to a full and fast delivery that too against kumble ur almost dead (:finger:) Thats almost like tail-enders dismissal against kumble. Now its ur bad luck if u get small inside edge.

Asad Rauf I thought had an excellent match he was consistent with his decisions he gave LBWs which were same to both sides, you feel let down if they are not consistent which Bucknor was in Sydney and billy bowden was here , he denied Ishant sharma Ricky ponting wicket but he gave a shocker to Symonds , that is where Umpires have to faulted , you cannot fault umpire if he is consistent but if he they give shockers that is where problem comes.
