Kedar Jadhav picked over Manish Pandey and Shreyas Iyer?

Jadhav actually is worth a decent run at #4 IMHO.  He's more likely to come in with 4 outfielders in overs 10-40 at that position.  And he is very good at hitting gap boundaries - better than he is at hitting power boundaries.

I am a supporter of Jadhav's batting and unlike quite a few here do not bother about his age, as he is same age as Dhawan who is one of our top bats. What works against him is just his fielding, so hope he works on that. In the limited chances he gets to bat he has done really well. People don't appreciate how difficult it is to just come in and start playing your shots at the end phase of an innings.

The thing is u cannot play manish and shreyas at no. 5. They are not no. 5 or 6 players.

Jadhav is 33 years old, with his fitness not much left in him.

Rahul/Rahane/manis/shreyas are all no. 4 contenders only one can play.

This is the point

Pandey and Iyers competition is now Rahane (gone from being backup opener to first choice no 4)

Iyer has got a hard deal here after a good series vs SL. It would have been consistent to keep him at 4, and see how he fares.

Personally I dont think KJ is a no 6 bat, his bowling edges things in his favour but Id play Pandya at 6 and get in Krunal- if he is ever fit- or Deepak Hooda at 7. At 7 we need a guy who can bowl a few tidy overs and hit the  ball hard from the go. Not saying Hooda is a better bat- though he has a good FC and List A record just potentially a better lower middle order bat than KJ

KJ has done enough to be in the squad for sure as a no 4 or 5 option.

yes, I think his high SR has led to him being seen as a power hitter, which he isn't. That breathtaking knock against Eng was a clear reflection of his abilities which is to hit boundaries through gaps - he's better at innovative shot placement rather than flat-out hitting. Should not be batting any lower than 5 at max.

He did hit a lot in one match which i watched all of his innings. iirc that knock was of 100+ against the Aussies. That ODI was played somewhere in India.

Maybe the hundred against England.

Yes, that's the one. Versus England at Pune. Batted through some pain. Innings studded with 4 sixers and 12 boundaries, scored at SR of 157. Not many players score 120 at SR 157.

India were struggling at 63 for 4 and Virat too scored a ton although at relatively less SR of 117. Magnificent partnership.

There are only 3 batsmen in ODI history who are averaging above 40 and have SR over 100. The Average and SR combination that Kedar gives is excellent.

Minimum Innings batted is taken as 20 to filter the results.

Based on your stats Jadhav> Viv Richards, Virat Kohli,AB Devillers,David Warner

Jadhav’s role is supposed to provide impetus from over number 35 onwards.

He might do well against Srilanka,Bangladesh and Wi

but overseas he will fail 9/10 times in his role against teams like Aus,Sa,Nz,Eng and even Pakistan for the matter of fact which have good bowling attacks and good fast bowlers

Given his subpar fielding and WTF bowling,it’s time we start looking for options elsewhere

We are top 3 heavy,Dhawan,Rohit and most importantly Kohli is the glue that holds it together.

With Pandya not being reliable and Dhoni being very one dimensional with his abilities these days 4 and 5 become that much more valuable.

Jadhav cannot be relies upon....our best bet is 2 of the 3 Rahul,Pandey and Iyer getting a long run. Rahane gives more of a secure feeling than Jadhav and that says a lot

the only country he has batted in amongst the ones you named is Eng, and he has an avg of 34 at a SR of 131 (during the CT). He has not been tested in any of the countries you mentioned to pass judgement either way.

If you consider records VS an opposition (both home/away), he has an avg of 77 vs Eng and a not-too-bad 34 against Oz and 30 against NZ (with good SRs against both). Jadhav has batted only 26 times and many were at the end with only a few balls around.

My main worry is not his batting, but his fielding and lackadaiscal attitude.

Typical Jadhav innings

a fast bowler on dab to third man, block, dab to third man

spinners On try to work them for a few singles before stepping out and slogging them.

scary that there are no alternatives to him.

great journeyman first class cricketer....got rewarded for consistency...good od fairytale needs to end there...enjoy IPL and post retirement.

How are people defending him with stats

Have been calling out on his mediocrity from day 1.

there are plenty of players who started off badly and took a long time to find their groove. in comparison, he has done much better in this regard. people like rahane, rohit, yuvi, etc. all did quite badly in the middle order initially.

They were youngsters who were invested in to evolve...Jadhav doesn’t have a huge upside...might as well invest in a youngster
