Sean Bradley Posted February 11, 2018 Posted February 11, 2018 He is not Intl material, doesn't have the technique to survive in overseas conditions, also looks like a mediocre fielder, cant bowl, doesn't add any value apart from batting, though there are batters who are much better than him. KL Rahul, Manish Pandey,or even Unmukt Chand are twice more talented than this "Curd Rice".
The Dark Horse Posted February 11, 2018 Posted February 11, 2018 Unfortunately he looks out of place. When batsmen like these click, they look good - like Sehwag. If it doesn't come out well it looks ugly. Pandey is no different.

All these guys - Pant, Rahul, Pandey or Iyer shouldn’t bat any lower than 4. That means only one of them can olay, then so be it. So since Rahul isn’t in the squad, then Iyer if needs to okay then should bat at 4 instead of Rahane. Any lower, they are too raw. Even Rahul or anyone would struggle at 5 to play the finisher role if required.

Pandey is Rahane's equivalent of Test player in LOIs, not pleasing to the eyes but will get the job done. After his century in Aus, he should've been given longer run. Besides he's a gun fielder. SandeepMotta Posted February 11, 2018 Author Posted February 11, 2018 Btw people have to take note, Iyer too is a client of Bunty Sajdeh. No wonder he gets a run above Rahul and even Pandey .

King Tendulkar Posted February 11, 2018 Posted February 11, 2018 He actually looked ok . How can judge a guy after first game overseas for India . But catching also needs experience of 50 matches? Really ?

He was excellent, yes excellent in IPL 2017 through out the tournament as a fielder. Someone like Jadhav as a fielr can be judged as he has played plenty of games for India but you can’t judge Iyer’s fielding just by what he did in one game.

Those two deserved a longer run and have better techniques when compared to Iyer. I feel like Kohli has got something against Pandey, since those two has played in the same U19 team. He needs to curb this childish attitude and look from the team's POV. This constant chopping is not going to help in the long run. Exactly, no 2 series haa gone after ct17 when we had someone consistently bat at no 4 or no 5. In every series new player has been tried. Main culprit are rahane in middle order and dhoni as finisher. We cant blame younsters until they have proper run on ceryain positio. Also as someone said we should try player with grit and determination like kohli in midfle order and not flash in the pan type.
Cricketics Posted February 11, 2018 Posted February 11, 2018 @VVS Laxman and @Straight Drive He is actually quite athetic. People have their bad days on the field. Check this out from IPL, crazy effort. This is not fluke. You habe to make special effort to save this. http://www.iplt20.com/video/105701/shreyas-iyer-s-acrobatics-saves-boundary And then check out this catch http://www.iplt20.com/video/94839/m21-srh-vs-dd-vivo-perfect-catch-of-the-match-shreyas-iyer

But he covered those drops by scoring 100+ or 200+. In ODI Virat doesn't drops as he is not mostly in slips in most part of the bowling innings. he has not dropped any cacth this series. And even if he dropped the odd one he has scored 393 runs. So he has that to cover the fielding lapses that he may do in ODI.
King Tendulkar Posted February 11, 2018 Posted February 11, 2018 One game . Jeez . Nerves , tension etc does not allows guys to show worth thats we always say give a run of games to find out more lad shoudl play rest of series , then we in much better position to see . Also bat him 4 or 5 earnt place on merit with runs in domestic and A tours . So now let’s see can deliver did well v Sri Lanka

Do not watch all IPL matches. Yesterday i could watch the full match and i saw it. I have nowhere said he dropped catches in previous matches, what i am saying is his drop cost us this match. He has played 4 matches for India and already lost 1 on basis of his fielding. imo Manish Pandey should have been given a chance. Edited February 11, 2018 by Straight Drive

And that is what I am saying, a fielding drop catch shouldn’t be a reason to drop a player. A drop vatch is a drop vstch, whether it cost us or not. Our top players like Kohli etc drop catches too in tests. Sometimes they get lucky that batsman doesn’t go on to score big, else every drop catch is a drop catch, whether it cost us or not. So why should we jusge a youngster dropping a catch and costing the game. Its part of the game. For that he can’t be dropped. I like Pandey as an option also but I will tell what our problem is. All Pandey, Iyer, Pant, KL Rahul all are still only good for number 4 position. Playimg them at 5 or lower will be unfair even to them as most of them are still raw and won’t be able to hit from ball 1 at times and will likely get out cheaply. We can play any of them at 4 I am fine, any lower than 4, basically means its going to be hard for all and that we shouldn’t judge them a lot as most times they will be coming after 35th over.

He can prove us all wrong. For that the management should give him a fair run.

What he dropped yesterday was a normal catch, slightly tougher than a dolly at this level and how he fielded in yesterdays match had more impact than how he fielded in past matches.

Versatility in batting order is important. At least in positions 4 to 6. Yes, middle order batters should not be made to open, but surely they have to possess that much ability that they can adapt to 4,5,6,7 positions.
