Can Shreyas Iyer do well at International level?

The thing most irritating about Nair was he dropping catches and then smiling.

Your better off picking Gill and trying to groom him in time for the WC.

No. He doesn't have it in him. You don't back away like tailenders to slap through offside against bouncers. It was not like he was going to play outrageous shots like Sehwag. It was out of fear he was backing away.  Don't think he will go very far with this technique. I am hoping India finds some technically sound stroke players in the IPL.

At no. 4 in ODIs we need someone like him who can rotate strike, exploits gaps and when needed can hit out and on his day can bat through the innings and can score big.

I honestly hate to mention this but some people on ICF have been using different yardsticks for different youngsters.

 

As good as Rahul is, some people say he hasn’t been given chance fairly, which I agree that he can be tried further but then similarly many seem to have written off a guy like Iyer who who hasn’t even played that many games.

 

Isn’t he also a youngster who showed promise in domestic. We need to show equal respect. 

 

Yes, we can’t play all Pant, Rahul, Iyer, Pandey, etc at the same time but at least we need folow the some rule when asking for them to be droppd. If we are saying have patience with Rahul than same should apply for a guy like Iyer.

 

He just hasn’t played enough and today was a really tough position he came in. He isn’t a finisher or at least not as of now. So to rate him as a batsman now will be a really big mistake.

 

Down the line, may be even after 2019 wc he can be a handy middle order or top order bat.

Lokesh Rahul is strong technically but he has the same careless attitude of Rohit Sharma. Sometimes looking at his body language in the middle you just know he will give away his wicket very soon. 

 

We want another player with kohli mindset. That player may not be as talented as virat. But someone who takes responsibility and makes sure India will cross the target by being there till the end. Another pre-2011 dhoni perhaps.

 

Very interested in seeing young sarfaraz play for rcb. This guy seems to have the attitude I am talking about.

Only two guys i am impressed with are Subhman Gill and Sarfraz few years ago. Not sure what happened to him. I purely judge based on his trigger movement, range of shots, shot selection, defense.  He could go Dinesh karthik way.

Most Indian domestic batsmen will struggle against short stuff. Important is how they work on that and get better. Fidel Edwards made Kohli look like a tailender in his test debut series against short stuff but he worked hard on that.

Problem is Iyer is no #5. There is no vacancy in top order.

Rahul

Jadhav

Iyer

 

Iyer got selected mainly because of 2 50s against SL coming in at no,3. He is too raw to finish at no. 5 or 6.

I just don't know how Iyer managed to get into the mix ahead of Rahul and Pandey. Those two deserved a longer run and have better techniques when compared to Iyer.

I feel like Kohli has got something against Pandey, since those two has played in the same U19 team. He needs to curb this childish attitude and look from the team's POV. This constant chopping is not going to help in the long run.

Really, did he smile after dropping a catch. A good fielder would have been very disappointed.
