he is averaging around 50 since he started opening.  How can one average 50 while performing once in a while?

FTB who fails when the conditions are tough failure in South Africa apart from one century failed in New Zealand in 2013-2014 tour did well in Australia though.Went missing when there was lateral movement and scores 2 of 18 in the last ODI.Good player yes but he is not the best opener that you make him out to be.

Conditions were not that tough in south africa series. His failures were cause of his test failures where he should have never been in squad. In Odis almost all are FTB currently. You will rarely get green tops and if you get it then every player in world would struggle as opener. Finch/Guptill are weaker than him as opener. Amla is done already. QDK idk is inconsistent these days. So contest is surely between Dhawan, Rohit & Fakhar maybe.

Only ATGs succeed everywhere and in all conditions. Even they might have average records at some places.

It was previously had a discussion with rkt in one of the threads in regards to Rohit where he had said Rohit is a great openerso the answer was in regards to that.

There is difference between great and all time great. Rohit still has chance to finish as great/very good opener in short formats. He will have to play a great inning in worldcup and if he can finish with avg of 46 - 48 with 30 centuries in odis then he can be considered why not.
