Other batsmen must step up chasing a smallish total. If india had played an actual specialist bat instead of Pant they could have won it.

So what is point of them scoring massively in useless series, especially, against weak teams when they are going to fail in key ICC games ? And according to you Pant is culprit ! Rohit+Kohli+Rahul = 3 runs in total !! I repeat 3 runs only ! Whether it is small or big chase, they have always failed in key games- look at previous WC semi or CT final against Pakistan.

For T20WC , could be Sundar a better option and should replace Chahal  due to :

Its called variations..Offspinner has two variations- one which gioes straight and one which turns into you..unless you bend your arm more than 45 degrees like Ajmal saab did and to some extent bhajji.. a leg spinner has 3 variations..straight one, googly and leg break..in a t20 game where batsman is going to go for a hit you need leg spinners as it keeps the gatsman guessing and hence you take wickets..its exactly for this reason except for gun legspinners (kumble, warne, yasir shah) people prefer off spinner in test as legspinners goes for runs as they have less control.. india prefer two finger spinners in tests

One guy scored 5 fifties in the world cup, other one 5 centuries. Dhawan out injured. KL Rahul did his own bit.  I can give so many instances where Australian team was in trouble with top order blown away and they clawed their way back to win the match. You have to be prepared for such scenarios every match.  We fail in key games because our middle order is not good enough to handle collapses.  Imagine Indian batsmen having 4 or 5 such top order collapses in the early rounds of world cup. We probably woould not have even go to the semi final.  Only twice India has failed badly with their top order. One 2017 CT where they were chasing a daunting total. Bowlers let them down.  This one i smore to do with poor technique against swinging ball. Rohit would struggle against Chahar at Wankhede if there is a bit of lateral movement. Kohli is also suspect when the ball is new and when he is early at the crease.  Real problem is with guys like Dinesh Karthik, Pandya, Pant, past by sell date Dhoni, Once in a blue moon Jaddu.  This is a line up they will keep on failing no matter how many times they try to chase.
