Classic Movies Thread -> 1920s to 1960s

Discuss / review classic movies that you recently watched or your top 5-10. 

 

I will start with Breathless, which I saw recently - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0053472/  .... released in 1960 .... French ..... a relatively different type of film

• Bedtime Story (1964). Remade as Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (and some Bollywood copies)

Rewatched two more French films:

 

• Umbrellas of Cherbourg: I am not a big fan of musical genre but this one is among the best. It is also a movie full of bright colors so looks wonderful. Poetic! 

 

 

• Le Samourai: Another classic

• Purple Noon (French): the original The Talented Mr. Ripley starting Alain Delon 
• L'Avventura (Italian): the story about when a woman goes missing how relationships unfold b/w her friend and fiance. The adventure (and relationship) starts once the search for the missing woman begins where the friend and the fiance develop relationship and eventually both hope that she is not found (or is dead). Even the super hit movie Sholay was inspired by 70s Western movies, I remember seeing a classic western movie a while ago, Gabbar looked so similar to a villain in that movie, there is a good chance that Sippy got inspired from classic western hit films and gave that effect in his movie.

This is one creepy movie. Btw, great series of posts as always! I rewatched Ford's The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance recently. Ford is one of my very fav directors (certified ATG in my book), and Liberty Valance is my favourite among them - although not necessarily his "greatest". It's from 1966, so it can be placed in this list.
