Question to all firang settled ICFers here: What are major differences in life you have found between India and abroad? What you like about abroad and disliked about India and vice versa? (please don't mention mainstream issues like women safety and caste etc., mention your personal experiences)

How are your stress levels in either nations?

Personally for me, life appears more complex in United States when compared to India and I feel that the entire system in the US is designed to exploit your wallet as much as possible. India on the other hand is more cost effective but the bureaucracy and master slave culture in corporate world especially the IT sector is repelling.

As a US citizen who was born and raised in the States for 15 years, I find the States more systematic, clean, and overall a higher quality of living. The country is not without faults, especially now and the economy no longer what it once was. But still a person who has lived there for more than a decade, adjusting to life here, is quite difficult and different. The corruption, work stress/culture, overall lack of quality of life for the middle and poor. Despite its flaws, life in America is still better.

  • Had no idea about how to do groceries in India
  • Menial tasks such as taking the car to service were handled by others in India

No major disease, No major disaster.  You don't care much for meeting relatives and friends. If you want to get away from everybody, the USA is a perfect place to live.  It also depends on what city you live. I have lived in crowded cities. But i like smaller cities better.  Quality of life is better. Big house, decent pay, great roads,

As far as India goes favorite food, restaurants, good opportunity to meet friends and family as often as you wish.

Personally i can live in a cave and be  happy. I prefer living in Kerala. But i don't find any jobs there.

Depends on what you seek in life. If material is your aim then, its very good here in America. Spent 2 decades here now. I think what is in the land of India is very difficult to know.

Filth is in both the countries, one you can see the other one you cannot which is true for both the places.

Every reason for me to miss India. I am alright, happier here but I need to work hard to stay like this.
