Why should we go back to a 35 yr old keeper who missed the toughest part of our test series cycle - in SA, Eng and Aus.

 

Pant came in as replacement, played 10 tests, averaged 50 with the bat and took nearly 5 catches per innings. Can’t expect anyone to do better at the start of the career. Yes there are flaws in his keeping, that will get rectified as he plays more (for some reason his missed chances attract more press than that of others). Will be even more criminal to drop this 21 yr old keeper now.

Saha is history, no need to invest any time on him.They are other wicket keeper like Ishan also waiting in wings.Pant has done nothing wrong to be removed as a keeper.

Like I said if he can prove to be better keeper than Saha I am all for him. Being talented he can probably keep and catch but (I am not an expert here) simple flaws - his sideways movement towards leg when the ball is pitched on middle (specially when Bumrah is bowling) can't allow him to taken catch on off side (missed one in 1st innings). Keeping to spinner he gets up too early ( dropped Blackwood on Jadeja's bowling).

Against a weaker side like WI it will not make a difference or at home but it will eat us in SENA.

Gilchrist was also more of a batsman than keeper but by the time he entered Test team at age of 28 he was complete keeper (not saying pant has to wait that long). If you are a specialist in team then prove that you are the best for that job first.
