Yes I remember this point being forgotten omitted quite often, in the meantime do you remember his scores in WC 6 KO innings? Also just so we're clear CT<<<<<<<WC as far as I'm concerned, not to mention the pressure/expectations/prestige/history is incomparable.

He is part of team and he makes u win Those are random numbers. Avgs also depend upon form and stage that a batsman is in. Ganguly and Tendulkar are MO batsmen (they do bat lower down in tests). Ponting later on wasn’t the same batsman. Opening in LOIs is a good spot so averages can be higher for openers (which is why these guys line up to open in ODIs and drop down in tests) Kohli batting at #3/4 should be the least of our worries. It should be based on what helps the team more. I am neutral on this

His last good (OK) score in a WC KO was at 4 whilst he has flopped horrendously at 3, do you want it in bold? His batting at 3 hasn't helped India in any of the games where he was needed, the games you like to remind us of namely (a) 2011 final was won by GG & MSD (b) bowlers in CT 2013 final (c) RGS in 2015 QF (d) 2017 CT SF also won on the back of our bowling.

RajBan Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 (edited) I am not able to understand why Iyer can't be backed at 4. He has a terrific start, we need to give him time to cement his place or discard him before reasonable number of failures. Kohli playing at number 4 is not the best idea and trying to create more problems than solutions. The point is that Kohli needs to show some brains and decide who among Dhawan and Rahul he wants to play. Dhawan average of 43 with a modest strike rate is no longer the benchmark value anymore. It was few years back but the recent trend of 330-350 being a chaseable target and crop of openers who can strike really hard at a healthy average comparable to Dhawan's has really created a need for an upgrade. It could be Rahul, Mayank or Gill but playing Dhawan is only going to take us to a dead end. 42-45 was a great average during Ganguly-Sachin days with 300 being a winnable target. That is not the benchmark score any more, so that means you need more batsmen in your team who can average near 50 at a high strike rate. Edited January 14, 2020 by RajBan

Yup same here if TM thinks iyer is good and many here thought to he was good then why does everyone want kohli now at 4. Iyer has done nothing to be dropped or change his position. Who ever u pick show faith in him.
cowboysfan Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 i dont think much of Iyer, frankly he cant bat against good pace bowling.until we include young players like Shaw and Gill this team is not good enough as England and australia right now.

TM needs to identify the player n back him cant play musical chairs
Ankit_sharma03 Posted January 14, 2020 Author Posted January 14, 2020 (edited) yea we tried this last time in 2015 Ind-Sa series to Adjust rahane and it didnt work , kohli went to 3 and scored a 100 immediately Edited January 14, 2020 by Ankit_sharma03
TNAmarkFromIndia Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 Virat Kohli has an average of 55.21 batting at No. 4.

This is from the post-match presentation: Quote We've had this discussion in the past. Because of the way KL has batted, we have tried to have him bat up in the lineup. We might have to think about this. Every now and then, it's about putting people up there and testing them. People need to relax and not panic. Today was one of the days it didn't come off. We tried this in 2015 Ind-SA series it didnt work, 2015 Cb series it didnt work

What logic is this? How did Rishabh Pant do at No. 4? Kohli has the perfect skills for No. 4, which is strange because he honed them batting at No. 3. Gill won't be able to play like Kohli can at No. 4. Gill has the mindset of a top-order batsman. A No. 4 batsman needs to have the mindset of both a top order batsman and a finisher. Gill can score big runs, but he's not a chase master like Kohli.
Ankit_sharma03 Posted January 14, 2020 Author Posted January 14, 2020 Also if he really wants to be at 4 then decide for sure dont do this once or twice thing.....settle urself and let other settle

Why do u think his recent scores at 4 i such a struggle ....for someone like kohli thats scores in 7 innings u n me can debate whole day long but numbers are showing an issue recently Edited January 14, 2020 by Ankit_sharma03

Kohli's game is suited for No. 4. KL Rahul's is suited more for top of the order than No. 4 or below. This was the right move. Whether it'll be successful or not remains to be seen.

But he has no security so he is playing safe for number. he has a 100 at 4 in t20 and made runs in ipl to at 4, made a 100 in WC warm up at 4 .....was doing decent till dhawan got injured in wC but whoever it is needs a long run , dont knw what iyer has done wrong that his position is changed now.
