Ankit_sharma03 Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 (edited) Even though he did well at 4 start of his career but moving him back is not a good choice now. Kohli has become ATG batting at 3 only , why to move him now. If no.4 is problem find no.4. This was done before to adjust rahane n kohli runs dried up. No other batsman will be as good as kohli at and kohli wont be as good at 4 as he has 3....so why compromise ur strength He likes to control the game He likes to setup the pace from start He has been set in that role for years now, its easy to adjust at start Kohli is best ODI cricketer in World so he shud bat at his fav position n play as many balls as possible He will do well at 4 but not as well as 3 . We did that with sachin also at 4 its not that he didnt score runs he did but not as much as he use to Another problem with kohli at 4 is it affects sides balance iyer , pant, KL every one position changes and they are not that experienced We have to play only 5 bowlers that is asking for disaster For me Kohli has to get back at 3 , They have to choose one between KL n Dhawan...not right for KL also to play in diff position and then change again after few games Edited January 14, 2020 by Ankit_sharma03 Vk1 1

rtmohanlal Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 every fan with minimum common sense understands it , but the dumb ass captain Kohli himself does not understand it. That is the problem. That drunkard leech is just there to suck money and not intimate Kohli about these things either.More over placing Rahul above himself in the order is the icing on the cake.
Vickydev Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 The problem i see is if Kohli goes higher, the batting goes even more top heavy. I see no hope for Iyer as #4. The guy struggles against pace, forget seeing him getting tested against movement when early wickets fall. Pant is underperforming as well but has potential. Ideal position for him is also at the top. We literally have noone right now that can bat in middle order.
ShoonyaSifar Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 He moves young players around shuffling or dropping them at his whim. High time he gets to experience this himself. If he goes back to 3 in the next match will only show how selfish he is. If he expect youngsters to bat out of their comfort zone and do well, why can't he do it himself? In fact he should bat at 6 as a finisher till the time a newcomer settles into a middle order role. sandeep 1

If he has been given that job show faith n back him. Thats what its called identifying a player m backing. If they have no faith in him then why was he given easy series for long. Same was case with rayudu they didnt beilve in him but wasted all easy series on him

The best young players coming through are all top order players and as such being inexperienced they should be given their preferred spots. The problem is the spot went to KL who is a dissapointment in this format. If Kohli is the best batsman in the world he should be able to reciprocate at 4 as well. As someone else said he is also the best suited in the side for it. It's not that big a jump anyway for a class player like him, Smith bats between 3 and 4 regularly as well.

And smith wasnt effective in wc batting at 4...all these williamson, kohli, root babar are best at 3
zen Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 Kohli at 3 or 4 (not a huge difference and when tons of players like Richards, Lara, etc., have done that to give their team options) should be the least of our worries
sandeep Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 (edited) Batting at #3 or #4 in ODI cricket is essentially the same thing. Both position's primary job is to control the innings through the middle overs. #4 gets fewer chances to boot-fill early in the innings against weak opposition, and has a trickier job of mastering momentum if you walk in to bat after 25 30 overs. Why shouldn't Virat take on that job, especially in meaningless bilaterals, giving other batsmen a chance to develop. Virat getting out today to Zampa - something he has done like 6 times - has nothing to do with him batting at #4 instead of #3. But you see folks using his cheap score to justify their own preferences. If he hadn't gotten out, and scored a 100 taking us to a winning 330+ score, would it mean that playing him at #4 is better? Anecdotal evidence is just that. Edited January 14, 2020 by sandeep Vickydev 1

Getting 35 overs is far diff then getting 25 most days Getting in with one down then two down is a diff. Its just not about today look at his last few scores at 4 in odi Edited January 14, 2020 by Ankit_sharma03

You can write 4 with all straight lines and have to use curved lines to write 3 that is also a "diff". Any other "diffs" that I missed?

And when such things happen, good players adjust their game. It is more about the ability to handle the situation In T20s (a different format), there are less balls than in ODIs. Kohli has shown his ability to adjust when coming in at various situations Let’s not underplay the talent of versatile experienced Indian players by suggesting that they can only be successful at certain positions Edited January 14, 2020 by zen sergio04 and sandeep 2
