Pant needs to repositions himself!

People understand that Pant is not the best WK in the country. and his keeping is a work in progress. His USP is his batting, which puts him in a select league of power hitters / game changers, and his ability to keep provides the team with the option to play a batsman/bowler/AR. He is a WK AR, who is also good enough to play as a specialist batsman esp. for his power hitting abilities. As a youngsters, he is still in the learning phase and developing his game, but is still good enough to be among the best in the country.

However, recently, it is observed that Pant has been boxed as a WK. And it is remarked that his position in the 11 depends upon his keeping skills! When even IPL bosses knows and will pay more for Pant's batting than some of those selected over him as batsman in the national playing 11! Pant needs to reposition himself.

To phir kaun banega keeper?

ODIs and T20s - ??

Tests - ??

He can be the keeper too esp in Tests. The point is that he is/was being overlooked as a specialist batsman in LOIs (when there can be a role for him even as a batsman).

The thread is based on Shastri's comment on Pant:

"India’s head coach Ravi Shastri believes Pant will need to work hard on his keeping to be a regular in the side. Shastri also feels Pant is not natural when it comes to keeping."

In tests surely. In LOIs, it looks like they'll persist with Rahul for a while

Pant will get a chance in LOIs only if Rahul gets injured. But first he himself has to remember to stick to basics first, like holding his shape and cutting out away from the body shots while batting and anticipating the path of the ball and moving well instead of being wrong footed and just sticking a hand out while keeping. He certainly has the ability to get the job done with just proper cricketing shots. He has to grab chances like Iyer has done or else DK will make his umpteenth comeback with Kohli's preference for "experience".
