But since 90s, Crowe and Taylor stand out for me Sure if I have to pick the list of top 20 cricket captains here is my list(going with 15 to fit all). Don’t care for guys like Mike Bearly but here is my list In order of ranking I ranked them based on how they built their team, how they groomed youngsters, their records, the situation in which they got their captaincy, how they used limited resources. Clive Lloyd- g.o.a.t Allan Border Imran Khan Ranatunga Keppler Wessels Saurav Ganguly Martin Crowe Hansie Cronje Steve Waugh Stephen Fleming- Mark Taylor MS Dhoni Ricky Ponting Wasim Akram- fixer but he did give a lot of youngsters a shot Greame Smith Virat Kohli - poor LOI captain but has changed the face of Indian fast bowling gotta give him that Edited February 3, 2020 by Global.Baba
Global.Baba Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 ^ Also need to mention Darren Sammy. The guy won 2 WT20s, one of the nicest guys to play cricket and was the foil that a team of maverick talents needed to focus and get them success. Like able guy, has accomplishments, good ambassador of the game. raki05 1
Global.Baba Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 Here is my extended list from 16-20 Sammy Jayawardena Misbah- the guy took over during the spot fixing saga and made the Pak team some what respectable and like able Naseer Hussain- catalyst to what England has become now. I think should be ranked a little higher Mccullum
Global.Baba Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 21-25 Kapil Dev Andrew Strauss MAK Pataudi Rahul Dravid Kane Williamson- the guy won a man of the tournament for captaincy
zen Posted February 3, 2020 Author Posted February 3, 2020 The list is more like you do not want to leave out anyone .... Pick your favorite 3-5

India n England were 2 fav in 2019 only England reached final so how is it punching above weight Pakistan had no chance against us if we look at team comparison yet they won CT how is loosing to far inferior team punching above weight Coming 2nd at time of ganguly was an achievement coz no one cud defeat that aussie side so teams use to fight to come 2nd but not now . In times of ganguly when we didnt have this good a pace attack n most importantly our overseas exposure wasnt as much drawing series abroad was punching above weight. Now we travel SENA countries so much including our A-teams. raki05 1

Still managed to win against most teams even in back to the wall situation against a inspired Nzl and a hopeless situation vs WI. To some extent same goes for Crowe. Nzl was not a contender before the 92 wc but their out of the box approach and inspiring effort was what made the captain stand out. Kohli has a team that is expected to cruise through these tournaments and lost vs Pak a team we are expected to beat 8 out of 10 times these days and to Nzl. There lies the difference. Who said India was favorite going into 2019 world cup or 2017 CT.England was favorite. India won all those ICC matches against Pakistan in world cup and CT.They just had a bad day stop making as if it was any different.Should they have won 2019 Semi final yes they should have but things didn't work out. NZ team in 1992 won all leagues except one but lost to Pakistan.NZ was the strongest contender .Pakistan team which barely made to semis beat NZ which looked impossible to beat in 1992 world cup. 1996 Aussies were one of the team to beat, India was not all the team to beat in 1996 Pakistan was favorite team along with Aussies. Upsets happen in sport that does not make any captain bad captain.Just like Crowe, Clive LLoyd or Mark Taylor did not become bad captains based on their world cup losses. Kohli does not become a bad batsmen just based on three knockout failures. Is Rohit Sharma a failure he also failed along with Kohli in all those matches. India was 29/2 in 2011 finals too , but that team had depth in middle order which could sustain early losses.Who are middle order except Iyer which Kohli could have used instead? Even now it is the same problem.
raki05 Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 How d fuk anyone can question Kohli.....if team loss important events one after another in his captaincy. It's selectors mistake, players mistake domestic cricket mistake even bewda mistake. But Kohli can never do mistake he is such a goat captain........my ass.
