Vickydev Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 Wasn't there a committee to discuss with the TM after the disastrous England tour in 2018? Did that change anything? Iam not sure.
The Realist Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 Shastri is the world's highest paid cheerleader, he ain't going anywhere willingly. There is zero accountability. Kohli & his Cheerleader are entrenched and have no opposition. Any dissent is quashed. They have a free licence to pick their buddies & are deaf to any criticism.
bowl_out Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 2 hours ago, ShoonyaSifar said: Jadeja at 6, Saha as the 1st choice keeper, 3 pacers and 2 spinners was clearly the home series team combo and going by the talk at that time, sounded like the long term plan as well. Kohli-Shastri gave no indication of changing the strategy for NZ. At the last minute, if there is such massive shuffling of players, it shows a complete lack of planning and preparation, creates panic in the dressing room and affects even stable players mentally. A trend we had got used to seeing on away tours. Teams needn't necessarily follow the same strategy everywhere as long as they internally know what they are doing. - At home where our batsmen are more at ease, there wasn't the need to play a 6th batsman.. Jadeja and Ashwin were good enough to be the 6th bat - Need the extra batsman overseas because of apparently tougher batting conditions.. But that said should Vihari always be the one to sit out in home Tests is very questionable.. Why wouldn't you play Vihari instead of Rahane or Pujara in some Home Tests, so he is relevant at the Intl level and stays in touch with Intl level Test cricket is a question to the TM... - Also, why Ashwin instead of Jadeja is another question to be asked. Ashwin's batting has severely declined, Jadeja is still a handy Test bat.. and Ashwin has never performed well in SENA. - Saha vs Pant - Pant was the obvious choice.. The batting depth that Pant can give far outweighs the marginal goodness in Saha's keeping against quick bowlers.. Against spinners at home, the difference in keeping abilities widens as Saha is seen as a safer keeper vs spin... also the need of batting depth diminishes (following up from my point 1) So, in all this match was lost more due to batting failure than due to TM decisions
ganeshran Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 The selection made sense for this test. Ashwin bowled better than Jaddu would. Shaw was next in line for the debut. Pant kept well and batted better than Saha would against the moving ball. The issue was not selection but our batting middle order. You cannot win if number 3/4/5 are walking wickets. Pujara failed to build on the platform after grinding out. Kohli couldn't even grind it out.

Turning_track Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 (edited) Ghanta accountability in India. Our overrated superstars would play a home series, score daddy hundreds & commentators/fans go crazy about the class, consistency etc. of our players. The superstar culture which gives a lot of profit to BCCI is one of the main reasons of our setback during the time when it truly matters. Having said that Ganguly being BCCI prez. might be the only one to take action against this duo & the poisonous PR mafia. Edited February 24, 2020 by Turning_track
ganeshran Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 Bewda should have been fired after the WC. He got away because Kohli was publicly supporting him. Kohli knows bewda is a pushover. As long as bewda gets his 3 patialas and murgha every day and collects his massive paycheck, he couldn't give a *. Just come to work everyday do PR and go home. If kohli can produce results then bcci can accommodate him by giving a coach of his choice. But since he is not producing results consistently, Dada should light a fire under kohli by a choosing a coach who will keep him honest
Khota Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 They should but they will not. Both of them have no shame.
