Don't know if you guys know some key exchanges between KP & old farts like Bakwaskar & Bhogle happened over last 2 days. Over switch hit & Reverse sweeps... And KP tried to educate these old farts about how advance cricket is now & these shots are gun skills to have.. And when Indian batters looked clueless he pressed the same question to Sunny G & Idiot Bhogle who had no response to it. Watch this https://youtu.be/unQHPA4h18c?si=j4-IyZvTTW9C2xLM Lone Wolf 1

And Bhogle was trolled in SM that day. KP tried to explain him how hard it is to pull that off but he kept saying its cheating lol... KP clearly had enough of this & a day later on Host broadcasting he made his point clear to Sunny G & Bhogle when Indian batters were clueless about how easy it is to pin them down without sweeps & reverse sweeps.
putrevus Posted January 30, 2024 Posted January 30, 2024 (edited) They don't need to develop sweep but they sure need to use their feet and crease. The backfoot game is non existent in Indian batsmen, the cut and late cut have gone out of Indian batsmen repertoire. They are plonking their front foot with hard hands and jabbing at the ball. Gill reminded me of Ricky Ponting in 2001. Dravid need to call Sehwag and have team how to read the ball from bowler's hands. They are unable to judge the length either. Use of feet has reduced due to arrival of bigger bats, batters can simply tonk and hit big sixes courtesy of these bats. Likes of Ganguly used to advance down the ground to hit a six of the spinner, now it's just based on hand eye coordination & bat does the rest. Pant still uses his feet against spinner is the reason he is so good against them. putrevus 1

Bhogle is taking the discussion elsewhere, a switch hit is like a leg spinner bowling off spin or vice versa..it's not illegal and it's the skill of a batter to do the last minute switch. Lone Wolf 1

Now if you are a leftie & trying to step out vs off spin on a turning track... It is risky... Far more risky than a sweep shot. Ashwin tried to step out vs SLAO of Hartley.. Idiotic move & he was stumped. You need to be ridiculously good at reaching the pitch of the balls... Like Viru Mayank & Pant to do that time & again. Not a easy task.

Exactly as per his logic a bowler would have to tell batter he is bowling googly not leg spin... Completely taking out skill & surprise factor. He should be booted out of commentary. Embarrassing stuff.

As Pope said sweep is as good as a solid defence in these conditions... If you have skill to use it effectively lesser chance of them throwing their wicket away unlike Indians... Who only had options to hit the ball in the air to get holed out in the deep or be sitting ducks while defending in second dig.

Gollum Posted January 31, 2024 Author Posted January 31, 2024 From whatever little I saw, Ashwin tried to go fuller to get LBW, bowled. But the Poms were too good, bahut practice karke aaye hai lagta hai. Next test we may see reduction in speed, more flight, more top spin. Vijy 1
R!TTER Posted January 31, 2024 Posted January 31, 2024 (edited) You should just control the swing/arc of the shot, unless you've read the length wrong by a foot or more you should be fine! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rx9sCZPw4jw Edited January 31, 2024 by R!TTER
