Let's have some fun! .... Post your AT11 in Tests, ODIs & T20s from your favorite players (not necessarily the best or the greatest)  .... The best one (from my PoV or a draw) in each format (or 3 forumers if I do a draw) will get a prize from yours truly to enjoy during the holidays (probably an audible audiobook code or a huge pat on the back where applicable)

11 players only + 12th man if you like (no X/Y, pick either X or Y in your 11) .... Competition will close sometime in first week of Dec 2020 or so :dontknow:

My teams for 2020 from favorite players whom I have watched in some capacity (not necessarily optimized)

Tests

Sehwag

V Richards (Viv opens as he avgs 60+ in the top order)

S Smith

Lara

Sachin

Gilchrist

Imran

Hadlee

Warne

Steyn

Ambrose

12th man Pujara

^ Since likes of Sehwag and Richards can bowl too, it probably has one specialist bowler too many but that is ok since I can attack all the time with 5 fresh bowlers

ODIs

Jayasuriya

Buttler

V Richards

ABDV

Dhoni

Stokes

SDP

Archer

Starc

Warne

Bumrah

12th man Jonty Rhodes

^ Jayasuriya, Stokes, SDP (Hardik) & Richards can be 5-6th bowlers

T20s

Buttler

Warner

Stokes

ABDV

Morgan

SDP

Pollard

Archer

Rashid

Boult

Bumrah

12th man Starc

Hayden

S. Smith

Kallis

Tendulkar

ABD

Gilchrist

Akram

Marshall

Mcgrath

12th Man - Shane Warne when playing in Aus instead of Murli

Tough pick between Smith and ponting. Kallis and tendu bats a position lower than usual as I just can't leave out Kallis from the squad.

Tendulkar

Jayasuriya

Virat

ABD

MSD

C. Cairns

Klusener

S. Pollock

B. Lee

Mcgrath

Murli

12th Man - Andrew Symonds

Great balance with this xi. 3 front line pacers with 2 great backups in cairns n lance. Murli leading spin attack with jaya as backup.

T20is

Gayle

Mccullum

Virat

ABD

Yuvraj

Pollard

Bravo

Afridi

Rashid Khan

Bumrah

Starc

12th Man - Morgan

In your Test 11, you would probably need Kallis to function as the 5th bowler if required

IMO, Richards and ABDV are the two benchmarks for batting when it comes to LOIs so can walk into any team in any format!

It is just that people like to recognize those who have played more in a format. For e.g., Sobers is good enough to play both ODIs and T20s, but most folks would consider him for test only

But good to see you think outside the box!

This is my all-time XI in each of the formats. I am sure it's quite crazy.

ODI XI:-

Rohit

Tendulkar

Kohli

Viv

ABD

MS Dhoni(c/wkt)

Kapil

Wasim

Warne

Donald

McGrath

Kapil Dev as fifth bowler and my no.7 batsmen who played the inning of 175 in ODI World Cup. Viv/SRT sixth option.

T20 XI:-

Gayle

Rohit(c)

Kohli

ABD

Buttler(wkt)

Pollard

Russell

Archer

Plus, 9 out of my T20 11 can legitimately bowl.  The other 2 are w/ks :-).

Ideally, Sobers, said to be the greatest cricketer of AT, (and Bradman, the greatest batsman of AT) should be the first pick in a test 11

I would rather watch Gayle light up test cricket rather than T20 where he is obviously the universe boss but when you have a guy like that with multiple 300’s and some great test knocks why not. Who will call test match boring when you have Gayle and Sehwag opening with Viv,Lara,Sachin and Gilchrist to follow :laugh1:

Don’t want to start a separate thread but might be a fun topic to have a test X1 that can beat any team in tests or odis or t20s on their day

Gayle

Sehwag

Viv

AB

Mccullum (has test double and triple)

Gilchrist

Kapil

Wasim

Warne

Murali

Mcgrath

Gary Sobers (C)

Adam Gilchrist(W)

Keith Miller

Wasim Akram

Abdul Qadir

Michael Holding

Zaheer Abbas

Viv (C)

Kohli

Gower

Kapil Dev

Wasim Akram

Joel Garner

Abdul Qadir

Michael Holding

I have not selected the best but my personal favourites.Keith Miller was great entertainer. Kanhai was supreme as a craftsman inventing strokes like  a musical composer..Zaheer took artistry to sublime regions.Lara could produce strokes that were surreal and was ever elegant even when being mercurial..Gower was elegance personified.Barry Richards was the ultimate epitome of batting virtuosity.Michael holding was grace personified  taking fast bowling aesthetics to regions of divinty.Qadir was the ultimate spin magician. The likes of Majid Khan and Azharuddin missed out by a whisker.

Tests: Liked that you picked Barry Richards in your 11. He can get into my best 11 (v the favorites 11)

Qadir was the ultimate spin magician

How is Qadir ultimate spin magician when someone like Warne has actually bowled quite a few magical deliveries?

ODIs: Kohli at #5/Gower at #6 .... both have played mostly at #3-4 .... do you not have other favorite players who could be played at 5-6 (particular 6 since one of them can be accommodated at 5) that you need to squeeze both these guys in the 11? :hmmm:
