Can KL Rahul have a successful test career as a middle order batsman?

Ppl forget that he has scored runs in tough conditions- he has 100s in Aus, ENG, WI, SL and that Ind-AUS home series where pitches were quite tough

 

Every player will have such patches , i dnt need to tell how long Ishant bad patch lasted

Considering the fact that KL has one of the 5 worst defenses in the world, during his career so far, it is unlikely he would succeed unless he fixed it during his time out of the playing XI.  He hasn't shown he belongs in Test cricket thus far. This is especially true as he is an opener( where defense is even more crucial).

If they can win one or two test matches here, it will help them qualify for test championship finals next year. Don't tell me that's not important either.
