Can KL Rahul have a successful test career as a middle order batsman?

I’d love to see KL Rahul bat in the middle order in test cricket. 
 

I think he will do really well batting against the older ball.

Rahul needs to play at the top. Way  he is currently playing it is criminal to keep him out. Agarwal and Shaw have not shown anything that Rahul cannot do.

Talent and capability wise he is one of the best batsman we have. TM should try to get him in tests.

Is it just because he is keeping in LOIs he isn't seen as a test batsman anymore ?

When Rahul Dravid was our best test batsman he was keeping in ODIs.

Nope, Agarwal has done enough to deserve opening for India in test cricket ,Rahul has got his chances he completely failed there being one of Rahuls biggest supporter myself I want him to play loi cricket more and break the shackles and wait in the quie. He is kind of individual that very easily mix up formats play rash shots in test or play defensively in Odis . He needs his time to really get hold of his game being one of the few players in Indian cricket who has all the gears needed to succeed in limited overs I hope he focuses more on lois.

Mayank should get all four tests.Rahul has done nothing to get a place in test team.

After 60 inns he averages 35 with below  par performances in SENA & WI.  Now, that is not at all adequate  from a  TOP 6 batsman if the aim is to win more matches in these countries. If  Agarwal gets proven to be  inadequate after  getting his deserving share of chances , he should be  replaced by another talented rookie. Not turn back to Rahul And this should repeat  ....This is how an all conditional team should be build.

Mayank should be given all four tests. But I have a feeling Rohit will be brought in place of him next game.

 

Vihari should be given one more test. If he fails, you can bring KL.

You cannot hold what Rahul did before against him now. Watch any sport in the world and the coach always tries to get the best player on the field. Rahul is the best currently.

Rahul is far from a failure. What he did before should not be held against him today.

How is he not a failure? Why should he not held responsible for what he did before, what has done to deserve this special status.Stop overating t20 performances. Odis he is in the team because he is a keeper.

He has had a long run in Tests and could not really use that as he went about tweaking his batting to suit T20 cricket (ala Murali Vijay in 2010-11).

 

Unless he goes back to FC cricket and scores runs there, picking him for tests based on his LOI form would not be right. Plus he is an opener and should be seen as one despite his success as a ODI MO batsman.

If Rahul is given chances again in test we might loose him in lois. Mayank has done enough to deserve his chances ,there is no need to make him the scapegoat.There is no certainty that Rahul will succeed in test,we shouldn't be mixing formats last time this is was what happened and we almost lost rahul from international cricket.I want him to focus more on lois at this point of time till then mayank needs to play ad a opener ,we can't change team after every series or match loss.

Done what exactly? 2 years back he played on flat pitches in MCG & SCG, KL actually played on the much tougher surfaces of Adelaide & the minefield Perth.
