steyn, morkel, tsotsobe & harris. Philander didn’t played a single match. 1 atg bowler, 1 great bowler & 2 medicore bowler. Its a good attack nothing more.

Oh my bad then. Maybe confused it with the 2103/14 series....

2015 s.africa first test

Steyn (prime. Still gun)

Kyle abbot (he is a phenomenal player. Check his record)

Morkel (quality support)

Harmer (WC spinner)

Also saffers 2018 first test.

Steyn (last year of his prime)

Rabada

Morkel

Philander

That's why I always say bowling wins matches along with ofcourse 1 or 2 special ATG level batsmen. That's all you need to win abroad.

That is the reason why current Indian beast AtG level attack with our batsmen will still destroy any version of 2000 era goat Aussie team in India and compete very well away. Reason being bowling mainly.

Same reason why s.afrixa with an ATG level bowling and ABD were able to thwart India albeit due to winning tosses in 2018 whereas a weaker bowling attack of 2011 could only draw vs a past prime Indian team that year.

That 1996 bowling was superb, but Donald at his fiery best was still manageable to some extent. Steyn in 2011 was swinging from between leg and middle stump to outside off stump at 88 mph, he was so deadly that Philander and Abbott were not needed at all for the bowling to look threatening.

Donald at peak was anything but manageable, Steyn himself idolized donald,a peak donald would run through teams,on top of that you have equally good Pollack, skillful Fannie and battery of highly skillful allrounders

Also you forget one thing despite Steyn india still managed to draw series ,but that 96 attack was nightmare,no respite what so ever.

We drew the series because of second peaks from Tendulkar and Laxman. That 1996 batting line up was clueless against fast bowling barring Tendulkar.

yep our batting was always a let down in overseas tours in 90s and early 2000. around 2003 ish is when things changed drastically.

England fielded Cork, Mullaly, Irani, Lewis and beat us when we toured England in 1996. The post 2000 batting line up drew in 2002 against Flintoff, Harmisson and Jones, won in 2007 against Anderson, Tremlett, Sidebottom.
