deepdynamo
Irrespective of the result in the final of 19-21 WTC, What should be India strategy going forward in the next cycle of WTC. Some pointers. 1) Rohit lost his prime in test cricket so can we give him two more year as a permanent opener. I think TM like Rohit and will give him the full cycle before he hangs the boots. Ideally, we should groom Padikkal in this cycle and he will form a nice pair with Gill. Also, Where does that place Shaw and Mayank. 2. Pujara, Rahane: Can we carry both of these in next cycle? Pujara has regressed a lot and is a blocker now. Rahane too is hit or miss. I believe they have served their time and had solid overall career. But time to move on . Alternatives are Vihari ( pujara clone), Rahul and Washington ( as a specialist batsman) 3. Pant is all set for the full cycle. 4. Ashwin/Jadeja/Axar set for full cycle. 5. Ishant: He will play but sparingly in helpful conditions like the upcoming SA tour. Bumrah, Siraj, Shami for the next cycle with Ishant, Bhuvi & Yadav as backup. Norman
Keep the core group pretty much the same as no one is on the wrong side of 30s barring Rohit and maybe Ashwin. A bit of a hot take but we must give Washington Sundar an extended run at no.3. He looked way too good against Aus and Eng to be warming the bench. If Rohit fails in the first half of England tour, Pujara should be made to open to free that no.3 spot. Test debuts must be given to at least two of Tyagi, Prasidh, Avesh, Porel etc.. Must identify the successor to Ashwin. Link to comment

I also believe he has already proved himself against Australia and England and that too in tough situation. For me, Pujara and Rahane is a problem. They are already in 32-33 age bracket, declining rapidly and maybe blocking potential spot of Rahul who should be in prime now. Link to comment
Lord
Rahane is fine as of now We must keep Sundar in the loop,Either opener or top 3. Link to comment
Sandeep99
Time to really blood in replacement for Pujara. Vihari fits the bill. Give him a full series at no. 3 against a weaker opponent. Rahane is still alright but the replacement needs to be prepared in the background. Link to comment
Lone Wolf
We can't waste a talent like Washi. A tall left hander with solid technique & nice array of strokes including cut & pull is ideal. He should be tried at no 3 sooner. Link to comment
