Why is NZ India's bogey team?

• Last time we beat them in an ICC tournament was way back in WC 2003
• We have lost 2 major finals and one major semifinal to them since the turn of the millennium
• Barring 2009, have a pathetic record when touring NZ as well

 

What is it about NZ that troubles India? Is it their mastery of swinging conditions? Or just mere complacency that bites us in the back?

We can't play swing to save our lives. New Zealand thrives in swing conditions. All the recent fixtures have come in England where swing dominates. They also have astute captain who comes up with brilliant strategies. Remember the T20 opening game where he deployed 3 spinners against us?

NZ smacked us on a spinning track in Nagpur in WT20 & almost nuked our NRR so badly..  That almost a first round exit seemed possible. 

Conditions are irrelevant to them when they face India in ICC tourneys. 

 

We try to be over cautious & play with a certain way against them.  Something we also do against England.

Method will never work against teams like NZ.  Only Passion aggression & natural flair will beat them.  Kiwis never have a Plan B & as soon as their plans are faltered they are blown away.  They don't have comeback spirit of Aussies or heck even Saffers. 

They like to stretch things slowly & we tend to get complacent against them.

Ture. People were wondering back then where is Southee, Boult when NZ picked 3 spinners in that t20 game.

Two reasons 

1- unlike the aussies , nz never arrogant and always seem to have a chris cairns or two as allrounders ( cairns was the best allrounder I have seen - could bowl bat and field well. A ben stokes but better ) 

2 - they play on pitches at home which have swing and sometimes seam . Sometimes pure batting paradise . As such their batsmen are used to playing on all kinds of surfaces except big turners . 
3 - they seem to get team selections right And never have a superstar culture . Very grounded team 

4 - india plays them far less and tours them less . Also post fab 4 era , our ability to play swing is really bad . Even pujara does not have a tight technique like dravid . Got to do something with us not playing county cricket much

1 - play swing more 

2 - have batting depth in seamer friendly conditions

NZ prepared well for this match. They wanted it badly to win. They’d organised a test series with England, all players had good match practice, familiarise the conditions and to ensure victory got BJ Watling to announce his retirement.

 

This is how you prepare. India didn’t prepared well. Not even prepared any useless player to announce retirement…
