Some individual or a team from a sport does well, govt allocates funds to it, Netas start getting into it, give positions of coach, head coach, trainer etc to their men, make tons of money off it, screw it totally, govt stops funding, neta goes out.

 

Hockey completed this cycle, Boxing went through the same, Shooting seems to be going through it.

The shooters were all highly ranked prior to the Olympics. They were all expected to at least get to the finals. Netas can't come and shoot for them on the day of the event.

Padosis on either side won't win medals in next 2 decades at least, no structure, no support.

We had top ranked shooters in 2016 as well, no medals.

25m pistol is Rahi's pet event. She will finish in last 10 by the time remaining shooters are done with their shots. 

 

Manu was never expected to do well here, surprisingly good performance. Back her and Saurabh, invest in these kids, can cross the final hurdles in Paris 2024.

The system can get you to a point where you can perform. From Rio these shooters have all been consistently ranked in top 3.

 

The shooters have the same opponents and events in the world cups also. They are able to perform there. That is what a system can do. It cannot do much if you stumble at the last block.

Actually the standard of archery from all the qtr finalists is extremely high - not just the Korean.

Mexican lady 10,9,10|9,10,9|9,9,9

Italian lady 8,9,9|9,9,9|8,9,9|10,9,9|9,10,10

Russian 9,9,10|10,10,10|10,9,10

Chinese 9,9,10|10,10,8|10,8,10|9,10,9

 

So competition is fierce no matter the opponent. Time to bring your A game or go home. Hope Deepika does the former.

more about that for Phelps. Have been watching him since Athens Olympics during my school days. He was winning in every event since then. He really made so many people fall in love with watching Olympics and not just Swimming.

2 Chinese ladies are in the Semis of the Badminton women's tourney ousting Okahura and a Korean lady.. Never heard of these Chinese ladies! They really bring their A games to the Olympics. I guess it's been a while since they medalled in women's badminton singles.

Mary is pushing it a little now. She is a legend and noone can take away her achievements from her. She lost to a better opponent. In fact a couple of us called out how her opponent appeared faster than her in Rd 1 and that she was looking tired in Rd 3. She did well to make the match close.

Chen Yufei has been a top 2 player for a while now. Expected her to make the final, against Tai Tzu.  

 

Okuhara's loss was unexpected. She won first set playing at a high level, then mentally checked out. 

 

That half is easy, Sindhu's half is a nightmare. Tai Tzu is lady Federer of badminton and overwhelming gold medal favorite, but the other 3 all can win gold beating Yufei.
