I hope Kartik Tyagi plays the full Ranji season in 2021-22.  He is the real deal.

He should not be picked for LOI squads and kept on the bench in the name of development. Let him get more FC experience. Same for guys like Mavi. Playing full Ranji season has to be their priority. Only if a India A tour is planned, should they be released. No u-23 Asian emerging trophy BS either.

Bhuvi was bowling 130-135 in South Africa and was mighty effective last time as the pitches were green. I agree that may not be effective if pitches aren't as green this time. 

 

Height is useful as you can extract bounce but more important is the length on a green pitch. Philander was a prime example of what accuracy can achieve in South Africa. 

 

But yes, I do agree that 2nd, 3rd spells will always be a challenge for someone like Chahar/Bhuvi as kookabura stops swinging after 15-20 overs. They can still get seam movement on a green pitch though.

 

The alternative of playing 4 pacers with zero batting ability is a bit more scary.

But has not played a single test match in the last 3 years. Probably hasn't played FC matches in this period either.

 

Now he is bowling a good percentage of balls in the early to mid 120s in ODIs. May bowl slower in tests. 

 

Lacks the fitness to play tests any more. 

 

We need fit pacers who can bowl with energy and intensity throughout the series.

 

Ishant and even Shami are not looking that fit either. 

 

We need to introduce new quicks.

 

P.S -- Deepak Chahar has a very high bowling average in FC cricket. Probably indicative of the fact that he loses intensity when he bowls 10+ overs a day. We should look at pacers who are doing well in FC.

Agree - just to clarify, I am not pushing the case for Bhuvi or Chahar. But given that they seem to be the only other names as back up for Shardul, perhaps goes on to show the temporary lack of depth in this one aspect of Indian Cricket - Seamer who can bat at 8. I say temporary because given the fierce fight for places, I am sure one of those young seamers will work hard on his batting and come up with the goods. Let's see if someone shines through in the next season of Ranji. If so, they need to be fast-tracked to A tours immediately.

I have the bowler for you... he did amazingly in FC. He is Akram, Alan Davidson, Bruce Reid rolled into one - the one and only Undercutter.

on a more serious note, as express bowling and others have noted, nalkande is the ideal fit for ODIs and T20s, although he should get some Ind A experience. However, he is not anywhere close to ready for long formats. Needs to play 1-2 Ranjis, do well, and also get Ind A FC experience. Atit sheth could have been a genuine option since his batting is quite solid for a no. 8, but his bowling is not up to int'l standard.
