The average calculation in OP is completely wrong. Its just using cricinfo average vs a player. But this calculation only takes into account the innings where you are out by a bowler. If a batsman scores 100 and then gets out to another bowler, its not calculated in average 

 

For example, if i just filter for averages for player when involving anderson, that will give a true picture. In that case, kohlis average when anderson plays is 45, sachins is 35, etc

i did check on one more site cricmetric which basically has batsman vs bowler numbers n it was same for dhoni

Sachin avgd  19.2 against James Anderson.

For example, check the 2008 series, sachin is said to average 18 against anderson.

 

In second test he scored 31 runs, out of which 18 was against anderson and got out. In first test he scored 103 but got out to Collingwood so the runs he scored there doesnt count towards the average calculation 

 

In truth anderson only got him out once that series, he got out to other bowlers. 

 

His overall average in 2008 series was 52 which gives a truer picture

Yeah but you can understand how this is a flawed concept right? Lets says rohit sharma played 5 innings against anderson. He gets out once to him after scoring 25 runs, part of a 100 score. In the other 4 innings he gets out to other bowlers for 0 first ball

 

His average against anderson is 25

 

Now second batsman pujara plays same 5 innings and scores 3 30s, getting out to anderson 3 times and 0 other two times by other bowlers. 

 

Who was really troubled by anderson? Pujara got out 3 times to anderson but averages 30 there compared to sharmas 25

Only counting a player's run when he gets out. 

Also, the OP is also totally wrong then. 

 

Even I was wondering how some site has better data than cricinfo(regarding player matchups). 

 

Looks like we can only look at averages when Anderson was playing.
