Try_Ball
Watching all the intenational players on the same stage brings a new perspective in place. A lot of conversation around IPL / Indian cricket is about how "skilled" Indian players are - and of course some of them really are and if you make it to the top level you are skilled but are you really on top of the food chain ? Seamers - Afridi - Killer Instinct and Tends to attack the wickets and goes for the kill Rauf - Pure pace - Guy has a good deceiving slower ball - From 149 kph can drop down to 125 kph and has the skills to lower the pace and vary his line Boult - Beautiful line and pace , consistent Starc / Hazlewood - Yorkers on list - can bring real pace and fire Bumrah - Highly skilled bowler, Can bowl yorkers and best wicket taking options Where do Shami/Bhuvi and all their "skills and talent" fit in the premier seamers group ? Allrounders - Pollard / Bravo / Russell - Amazing hitting skills , even mishits can make it for 6 , can bowl wonderfully as well - not brainless bowling but can be deceiving as well when bowling Stokes / Woakes / Moeen Ali - Attacking options / go for wickets / willing to bat up the order , bat in the powerplay and bowl in the poweplay Ferguson / Woakes / Neesham - Can bowl sensibly for 3-4 overs and usually pick wickets up and can swing the bat up effectively Pandya - The guy hasn't bowled for two years , being picked in the team for his legacy for two years based on his past performances - no hitting skills Jadeja - Not a wicket taking option , hitting is not good for international level Our best "all-rounders" are terribly "unskilled" when it comes to the international level. WicketKeeper- Rizwan - Guy plays with sense , can knock it around and respect bowlers to not hit them out of the park on every delivery and can change gears , can take responsibility Butler / Bairstow - Can open the innings and finish the game - unbelievable hitting power , Aggressive batting and premier keeping and batting skills Quinton - opens the innings - ability to destroy the bowling lineups and can sensibly play the long innings as well Pant - no foot work , multiple dot balls and takes on too much pressure , cannot rotate strike and mindlessly run down the pitch half way and play a bling slog - cannot give you more than 15-20 runs at most. Where are all these skills and talent that we speak about all the time? For Each position - other teams have better players than us for each single slot - How does that make us a "talented" team? chewy
On ICF, Indian players are not over hyped except a couple of nusiance fan girl posters who make the forum toxic with bias support of certain players. Most posters are aware of Indian players limitations especially the batsmen. The overhyping of Indian players, especially batsmen is done by media and pundits, including non-Indian pundits. It was nauseating listening to Shane Watson and Mark Nicholas hyping Rohit and Kohli during commentary today, when both these batsmen are average T20 players, and same when Jadeja and Pandya were batting, there were commenting as if Butler and Bairstow were batting. It is funny when these guys in media and experts feign surprise how Kohli couldnt hit sixes...really??! Norman and Lord 1 1 Link to comment
Try_Ball
What I mean by over hyping is expecting the team to win with these average skilled players . I think the over hyping of our players is implied here by expecting our team to win T20 and ICC events when we do realize that our team isn't as skilled as the other teams Link to comment
Majestic
Yes. But the blame goes to batsman also. Look at bilateral stats of Rohit, Rahul and Kohli and then look at their World Cup stats. Look at Pant and Pandya's T20 stats and see how much they get hyped. It is ridiculous. Link to comment
