3 poor years out of 15 is 1/5th of his entire career! That's a very extended slump. If Root or Smith had as bad a run as Kohli, they would have retired by now. Kohli has overstayed his welcome and embarrassed himself with his consistent failures and defeatist body language. Anyways, I am not invested in Kohli's success or failure and just want the team to do well. It sounds cliched but the game is bigger than any individual.

Unless of course, he gets things right and scores heavily in domestics to make his way back in.

in 3 poor years very few test have been played due to pandemic

1 yr is 37 which is not poor, smith avg 38 ............for many avg players 38 wud be considered as decent

1 yr 19 in which just 3 test was played and in same yr smith avg 18

1 yr - 28 avg

so basically just 2 yrs not even 3 and that too after years n years of captaincy burden he deserves it

that much is fine when u have scored from 2012 to 2019 that consitently

Kohli is 33 (at least officially) so has 2-3 years of cricket left in him. But he has to step up now big time esp. overseas as:

a) Ind cannot continue to keep an experienced batsman who is in the last stage of his career, hoping that he does well for a year in 2024.
b) Ind has batsmen who can do well in India but needs to develop new talent that can do well overseas too (therefore, Kohli’s struggling years could also turn out to be a missed opportunity for Ind esp. if Kohli continues to fail even now for an extended period).

c) Kohli bats in the middle order (#4-7), where Ind has options.

yes if any batsman name is virat kohli, root, smith they shud be and wud be any team cause they have scored runs for years n years and its not like that someone is pushing them with mountain of runs.

Nobody will scores runs for entire career of 15 yrs

Can't score? Then either quit. 2 years is too long. This isn't a government job. It's private sector mate. Perform or perish. Investment banker style.

Either kohli goes back to ranji if anuskha ji permits him. Prove himself with the A team or ranji and then come back. Otherwise he csn piss off along with all his moron fans.

Kohli looks and really is around 37 38. I highly doubt he is 33. He is a liar and a manipulative sob.

no it isnt specially in pandemic time n who said he hasnt scored at all, KL rahul struggled badly for 2 yrs and then look at him now

  • He did score in pink ball test (tough condition)\
  • had 2 fifties in home series against england again very tough pitches to bat
  • had 2 fifites in england and some decent starts
  • this yr he is avg 37 which is not bad also
  • scored 2 fifties in 3 matches in ODI series against england
  • avg 57 vs aus in ODI series in Aus
  • was best batsman in t20 series against england

Govt job ??? This is cricket no one performs whole career no one .  when others will go through bad form even this many will look like a dream

  • Why is ok that steve smith avg 18 in 2020 but problem if kohli avg 19 in 2020 , tenculkkar avg 17 in 2003
  • Why is it poor if kohli avg 37 in 2022 but ok if smith avg 38

Don't conflate loi with tests. He is even worse in loi tbh. Bats so slow. He is a washed up has been.

It's a disgrace to even compare Smith to kohli. Smith is light years ahead. Kohli can never single ha deadly carry a team to victory like Smith. Kohli has flawed technique. He never looks comfortable at the crease.

He scored some useless 50s that dint lead to a victory yes. In tests I.e.  what's the point of that? Away from home I mean.

At home even shreyas talpade can score 50s. Kohli is horrible vs spin. Kept getting bamboozled by moin freaking ali who averaged 50 in India.

Smith has great technique ??? Hain

He has been struggling against short ball for a quite a while

Also no one looks good in bad form , look at KL dismissal in his poor phase . Wait till u see guys like vihari n iyer in bad form.............dekha nhin jayega . Even shaw during that aussie tour when he was having major techincal n form issues looked absolute ****. No one has ever looked good in bad form

We don’t necessarily need “great” batting stocks but effective ones that can be developed

Someone becomes great after years n years of performances , So im not asking for that but who are these players ..............i really dont see many good choices in test .

I get the feeling he'll do well in the WT20 again

i have the same feeling that also has the logic that he has been the best indian batsman against high pace hard length . Even in last 2 ys which hasnt been good the way he played wood n Archer in that home series shows his skill

In Aus if u wanna win u need good players of high pace hard length which we have very few - Kohli, KL, Rohit, Pant , Rutu , gill.............rest like Shaw, samson, hardik, kishen have issues and hooda i have my solid doubts, iyer wud be a joke

Like I said. It's not a government job. It's private sector. We can't wait for him to perform. Investment banking style. Either make money for the firm or get lost. Same applies here. Either perform or perish. Too many chances been given.

Smith is better yes at everything. He hasn't really struggled. He actually scored a 100 vs us in Sydney. And performed well.again in gabba.

He only struggled vs Kiwis where the damage was already done by his openers. Match was already in the bag. Trundler Wagner fluked some wickets by bowling random shitty slow bouncers. Smith probably got bored waiting for the ball to come to him.and decided to get out.

Watch Smith play well vs India in the next bg series again and I am 100% certain kohli will get under 25 type scores like in 2016 where he averaged 12.

Anyone talented who is sitting out … Agarwal is not playing, Gill can be played in the MO (as we have players who can bat in the top order (#1-3), and so on.

If Kohli (or Rohit for that matter) does well, good. If not, Ind cannot play him hoping for  6 months of good cricket in the next 2-3 years, when Ind has to look for options (whatever they are) anyways!
