Pros and cons of probable T20WC22 squad

More or less, the horses have left the stables. Ind played so many games in both T20s and ODIs post IPL but one can say it lost the opportunity to develop Moshin and Umran (unless they find a way to get into the WC squad. I have no issues with talented players even making their debut in world cups) ... Anyways, below appears to be the probable squad of 16 (assuming everyone is fit):

8 Batsmen (including batting ARs and WKs)

Rohit

KL

Kohli

SKY

SDP (Hardik)

DK

Pant

Hooda

8 Bowlers (including bowling ARs)

Bumrah

Bhuvi

Avesh

Arshdeep

D Chahar

Jadeja

Chahal

Bishnoi

What are the pros and cons of this squad esp. considering full strength opponents at the world cup and conditions? ... Who are the top 5, middle 6, & bottom 5 players?

I think Ashwin will be going instead of Bishnoi. I have very low opinion of Chahal. Would have preferred Bishnoi. Also universal hate for Avesh...don't know what TM sees in him...would be better to back Siraj Shami or someone else

Pros of batting

  • Experience
  • Good players of pace n bounce - Kohli, KL, Rohit, DK, Pant, Hardik, SKY
  • Good players of High pace hard length- KL- Rohit- Kohli- DK- Pant .......................I have my reservation regd Sky and hooda
  • Australian wkts have suit their batting
  • Role defined

Cons

  • Lack of left handers
  • Hardik- Jaddu struggles against High pace hard length and both are our 6-7
  • Form of some players
  • One dimensional players

My playing 11 is as follows

Rohit

Pant - need a leftie to throw opposition plans

Kohli

Sky

Jadeja

Pandya

Dk

Ashwin/Harshal/Dchahar- need a 8th batsman

Chahal/Bishnoi/ arshdeep- depending on the 8th player

Bhuvi

Bumrah

KLR misses out but can fit in if pant sky dk or Kohli fails.

I think Hardik has worked on that weakness..

Bowling

Pros

  • Experience
  • role defined
  • Bhuvi-Bumrah-Arshdeep-Harshal are very strong t20 bowlers
  • They are highly economical .............so it will be pressure from all ends
  • Different skill set in spinners
  • Bhuvi-Bumrah-Arshdeep-Ashwin-Chahal are all phase bowlers
  • Bhuvi is a God in PP , Bumrah is a freak in  End overs
  • Hardik pandya is currently the best middle over bowler in world cricket Acc to me
  • Hardik- Harshal are two phase bowlers
  • Deepak despite being a one phase bowler doesnt leak runs in other phases
  • Variation in bowling attack
  • In history of t20 their are two bowlers - 2 Indians are among top 5 most economical bowlers in Powerplay and we have both in this squad and both Bhuvi and Ashwin eco in Australia have been super good too
Best economy rate in powerplay in T20s (minimum 100 overs) -
    Bhuvneshwar Kumar: 5.94
    Dale Steyn: 6.26
    Lasith Malinga: 6.27
    Sunil Narine: 6.53
    Ravichandran Ashwin: 6.56

    Cons
  • As of now Avesh khan
  • Lack of pace
  • Lack of High pace hard length bowler
  • Lack of extra skills
  • lack of good hit the deck hard bowler - Avesh is kept for that but his form is awful . Actually Hardik, Bumrah can do this job very well so not an issue apart from that bumrah overs needs to be managed properly which also hardik-ashwin allows
  • Jadeja bowling

Below is my segmentation of the squad, which will hint at pros and cons too:

Top 5 (relatively proper T20 picks)

SDP (Hardik) - impactful with both the bat & the ball

SKY - 360 degrees batting

DK - recent form + 360 degrees batting

Bumrah - though can be inconsistent & go missing in key games

Bhuvi - recent form

Middle 6

Pant - though needs to improve consistency in T20s

Hooda - positive attitude + improving constantly

D Chahar - mostly a PP bowler but can be impactful on his day

Jadeja - for usefulness as a versatile batsman (though can start slowly), fielder, and bowler

Chahal - wicket taking abilities (though a bad fielder)

Bishnoi - wicket taking abilities

Bottom 5

Rohit - :yawn2: (even though an experienced captain can waste DRS)

Kohli - :yawn2: (needs to be closer to his best to make an impact. 30-40 off 30 batting in the top 3 may not work for the team anymore)

KL - for relatively questionable mental strength and tendency to statspad (would like to see him play more freely and to his potential)

Avesh - highly inconsistent. Eddo Brandes of India. Brandes would pick up 3-4 in a game but struggle in 4-5 games in b/w "those" games

Arshdeep - useful bowler but has a low ceiling relative to other bowlers

Squad is mostly same as last ones so cons will remain similar

Pros

Hardik fitness and form - biggest factor

Better captain and maybe coach

Middle order in form and getting enough opportunities

Arshdeep good bowler who offers left arm option

Cons

Top 3- neither scoring nor moving down.

Lack of wicket taking new ball bowler - Deepak is closest but wont be in XI. Bumrah and Bhuvi take wickets through stopping runs

Lack of brutal power hitter at end.Pant in form is our best option and hence should be backed

None of top 5 bowl

There is Harshal as well but I don't know the status of his fitness. If Harshal is available, he is likely to come in for Avesh/Arshdeep/D Chahar
