vvvslaxman Posted September 5, 2022 Posted September 5, 2022 Gone are the days where spinners would be terrified of bowling to India in LOIs. Nowadays it is the go to strategy for opposition to choke us.

Now they are flat and quick and shorter hardly giving any chance to hit from the front foot.
Ankit_sharma03 Posted September 5, 2022 Author Posted September 5, 2022 Pakistan actually missed a trick by not bringing Imad wasim, he wud have been a pain for our top 3

None of the modern spinner can bowl at a pace at which Afridi could bowl. India totally dominated him.
Ankit_sharma03 Posted September 5, 2022 Author Posted September 5, 2022 but its just not us Babar Rizwan livingstone bairstrow they all slow down when they see SLA

So how come our spinners are not able to do the same to other teams.Back foot game is missing from many Indian batsman and lack of sweep shot is not helping either.

Overall quality against spin has regressed. Few guys play. Many struggle. A reason why so many leggies are in top 10 ranking. Left arm spinners can be targeted. You need to get set for a few balls something you don't get in T20. You cannot eat up balls. Pant attacks the same left arm spinners in Tests better. Reason is he has time to get set, judge the pace of the pitch, find some rhythm. For left handers it is supposed to be easier. We assume the bowler is bowling orthodox left arm spin. That is not the case anymore. They come round the wicket fires it down the off side of left hander. It goes with the angle. So you need to have both off side and on side game to dominate them. Vk1 1

If you float he comes down. If you fire he is perpared too with slog sweep.

But starting from Jadeja to Axar have not done that great. Axar is still WIP. IMO Axar will do well due to his bowling style and height. To do well against SLA, you should have a back foot game and sweep. Both are not neccassary but they need to have one of them. Sehwag is prime example he ate them for lunch, he could walk down wicket and loft them or rock back and play cut shot. I would not call Sehwag a master in sweep shot. Ganguly was one of main reason why India did well against SLA.He would feast on them. Pant is still hit and miss.

Pitch got worse in the second half. Having said that Aravinda De silva is one of the ATG against spin. He was master of using depth of the crease against spin.
