Expectations versus India's performance in World Cups

1992 -> Was happy that India was to play a test series and a tri-series involving Aus & WI in Aus before the world cup. Visualized Tendulkar, Kapil, Srikant, etc. hitting 4s & 6s, and Azhar & Manjrekar playing stylish knocks. The funny part, there was a player called Subroto Banerjee, whom I imagined to be picking up big wickets and winning India games. There was Prabhakar as well to lend batting depth.  In short, greenhorn dreams! 

 

1996 -> With India playing at home, the fire was alight. However, SL doused that fire in style. 

 

1999 -> Can't recall major expectations esp. when Jayasuriya had shown Ind's reality in many games. Though was good to see India smash SL for a change in that period in the world cup.

 

2003 -> Had some hope after India played well and even entertained the idea of Ind upsetting Aus in the final (Aus could have a bad day too!) ... But that Aus was that Aus.
