2 off 2 against arch-rivals in front of 95k crowd, DK could have justified his selection there. Instead what did he do? :hysterical:

Skills hai iske paas, even Kela...but mental fortitude bhi chahiye is level pe. Far lesser cricketers defeated some legendary teams to win 1983 WC and 1985 WCC. What did Yogi Berra say about the mental part of sports....always thought ki zyada fek raha tha, but more in agreement as time passes.

That was also wide lol He just could have stepped away like Ashwin did. That is what happens when you have brain fog induced by pressure.

Guys like Sehwag forget about one thing. Which is the primary job of these guys. DK and Pant. I don't advocate Pant replacing DK for his batting.  I advocate Pant replacing DK for his keeping. India simply cannot afford to have missed stumpings/missed direct hits/dropped catches. As far as batting goes both are more or less the same.  Whatever Pant or DK score can be considered a bonus. First we have to get the basics right.

DK has iron hands under iron gloves, everything gets deflected

While Uthappa begs to differ. Wants Pant in the SF too...

Overall, I would agree with replacing DK with Pant. Considering how DK is playing, it's no-risk proposition.

But, I don't get the logic of selecting someone based on how he would play a single bowler.  What about the other 4 or 5 bowlers that he may have to face?  And if batsman X has a great record against Bowler Y, will the opponents' captain keep bowling Y when X is comes to the crease?

I think that is just a fake justification they come up with. Not like Pant has fantastic record against left arm spinners. His strike rate against them is under 100. Samson is inconsistent. Kishan can be a dot ball merchant. Both look better than these 2.

Even if he did, and there was a Sikandar Raza or Shakib on the other team, that is not enough reason to pick him.  There are other good reasons, and I am ok with picking him now that DK has struggled, but the whole Adil Rashid argument is specious.

Sehwag has actually said many times in cricbuzz show that Pant should have been in the XI from first match. He even said that Pant has good experience of scoring runs in Aus and Kartik doesn't have any.

He just said that making changes at this stage makes management people look confused.

If they don't learn from their mistakes and not make changes to improve their chance to win a WC then they will look stubborn and stupid. So it's a tough one.
