I think window for Bumrah being a top tier bowler might have closed. He is getting injured very often. He needs to be fit for BG trophy and hopefully ICC test finals where he will finally deliver in a crunch match.

Bumrah is just 29. He still has a long career ahead and injuries are part of a fast bowler's career. They don't necessarily hinder a fast bowler from becoming a top bowler if he works hard.

I hope you are right but since 2020 he has been more out than in for Indian team.As injuries keep mounting coming from them becomes harder.

At the age of 28-29, by around 2010, Anderson had gone through similar injury issues and no one could thought he would take 600 wickets in test cricket. He wasn't as good back then as Bumrah is now at around the same age. Bumrah can still have 5-6 good years ahead.

Four things work in his  favor

1. Anderson is freak .

2. He plays in England where his ability to swing plays more important role than his speed.

3.England play more test cricket than any other team.

4. Unlike Bumrah Anderson plays only test cricket so he has enough time to recoup from niggles before they turn into injuries.

Bumrah with reduced pace might not be as effective as Anderson in Indian conditions and he plays all formats along with IPL. Too much work load.

Bumrah has had just 3 injuries in his 7 year long career so far.

2016, 2019, 2022.

Pretty normal for a quick bowler.

I think Bumrah will be fine. He definitely won’t compromise on pace that I’m sure off.

That’s just life these days as a fast bowler as a byproduct of the volume of cricket that’s been played. Yes, he’s probably more susceptible coz of his action. but if he gets injured again, it’s gonna be the same drill. Rest, recover and come back strong one more time.

I think bumrah still has about 4 years left in him at the top level. however, it is necessary to start prepping likes of kartik tyagi to take over. up to 19-20, tyagi was a better bowler than bumrah was at the same age. and tyagi has only just turned 22.

Sir Don has shown enough skills with the ball to replace Bumrah to be our front-choice bowler.

Notice how he has now developed an outswinger and in swinger which he can use when he bowls his full quota of overs when the match is dead,

He is good for a spell or so but anytime he puts more back..it concerns me about hurting his back again..

Pandya has yet to prove a lot if he wants to replace Bumrah..

Bumrah is still miles ahead of him..

But yes he is easily closing doors for Bhuvi..

The only way to be match fit and stay that way, is to play lots of matches.

Agree.

What really should be happening with Bumrah is that he slowly builds up to bowling 10 overs per match.

First match should be used to bowl 6-8 overs, then 8 overs than 10 overs. The result of the meaningless irrelevant bilateral series is insignificant. The 6th bowler in the team should be bowling whatever Bumrah does not bowl.

Thats how you condition and bring a player back.

County would do him wonders. He should look to play county. Zak khan was average before he played counties. He used to average around 37 before playing counties. Then he averaged around 25 from 2005-2011.

yes, zaheer improved after playing counties. boom does not need to improve, but it will be useful bowling practice.

Indian Cricket has reached a stupid stage, where players are now too proud to play for their state.

He is an atg bowler. Yes. But county us easier on the body. Good weather. Good pitches. Or play ranji on dead wickets. Ranji makes you strong and fit.

too big for their boots, as we say. at least in the case of fast bowlers, I understand why they may not play - workload management - but batters have no excuses

Not too proud. Where is the time ? We play IPL like 4 months , tests , Odis and t20s. These guys have families apart from cricket. If cricket takes like 9 months of their life in year. I am ok with them spending time with family.
