why should we not aim for or have batters with 50+ avg who are matchwinners? there are quite a few in history - Viv (and barry) richards, greg chappati, kallis, stewie smith, etc.

Was just curious to know your definition of 'matchwinner'. Haha. For me, every batsman averaging this high must have more than match winning innings. Matchwinners with middling averages are rare.

yes, most batters with > 50 avg usually have higher-than-career avgs in wins. drabid at some point had an avg of nearly 70 in wins. sanga also had a high avg.

From Gill and Shaw, people have moved on now to Jaiswal. 2-3 years later, it will be Yash Dhull. Actually Yash Dhull isn't even rated as highly for his batting prowess as Gill/Shaw/Jaiswal used to be so maybe we will have to wait to see whom we can move on to.

He is just as good. In fact, Varma and Jaiswal were the weakest bunch, ability wise, for LOIs. Turns out they hsd the best temperament as well.

priyanshu moliya is 17, started well in ranjis and bowls quite a bit. too early of course to tell how his career will develop

Being a gujrati means the path can be smooth for him. If he performs, off course.

musheer khan is another 17 y.o. who has promise (and also bowls to an extent). didn't go well in his first ranji match, but was not completely bad either - against a strong team on a bowling-friendly pitch.

an unsettled team is unlikely to create great batsmen. either you have great batsmen or journeyman first class cricketers. cant have both.
