Frustrated Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 Opening continues to be the achilles heel for us. That inning of 200 vs Ban made me think that kishan has improved a lot. (Different format though). But it is evident he is still clueless, especially against any sort of extra pace and bounce. Not sure if he should be persisted with, in this format.
tapandrun Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 (edited) Aftermath of SL vs Ind Series : Ind Needs to find better t20 openers - Gill does not suite to T20s approach, should not have been picked in the first place, does not have IPL/Domestic records to back the selection, Kishan has obvious weakness against pace where ball is decking away after pitching, this could be due to lack of off-side play Chahal does not look threatening at all, does not threaten inside or outside edge, depends upon batter making mistake to get wicket and his fielding and batting makes one believe Ind is playing with 10 players, his section in 15 should be re-looked Tripathi showed intent - this is how T20s should be played, being +ive from ball one and everything is for teams cause. Fast bowler leaking extras, Umran can be an enforcer in the middle overs if paired with another wkt taker in the 10-18 overs then will be lethal. SKY is being SKY -but need other to come true, too much on him to score big and quick other have to share load Axar batting is plus Mavi's bowling speeds were disappointing, not sure if its a longterm solution. Chintu Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 Kishan will find his game in T20, he’s a threat once he gets going..Pretty good keeper also. I would support Gill on other end. His approach is a bit different, but if he can play 30-40 runs at SR 120-130 while others around him have better SR it’s ok. He needs to consistently play then. Can’t waste balls and get out. We saw in Pune what happens when everyone tries to go bang ball 1. Still need to have some partnership going. Gill can play that anchor inning. He shouldn’t play all 3 formats though. Spin somewhat an issue. We don’t have a threatening spinner , our specialist Chahal is predictable and outside of Ind very poor. Jaddu still best option IMO. Jadu over Hooda. Tripathi appears to have this positive approach, should be given longer rope. But then where will Rohit and Virat fit. hardik is by far the best captain since MS. He exudes confidence among the players, makes it difficult decisions on defending them, after poor performance is as we saw. Mavi has potential though not quite there. Can bat a bit and field which is plus. Arshdeep, Umran, Hardik, Mavi is good pace attack. all in all, I think this young team has lots of potential, needs grooming, fine tuning. I wonder who would go upon return of Rohit, Virat- I guess Gill/Tripathi.

I think India will win, really just needed to fix up that no ball issue. On reflection I think Arshdeep should play if they have addressed the no ball issue and he is confident he has rectified it. It will be good preparation for the the next T20 WC. Enjoyed the game, disappointed with the batting, yes I know SKY but our other batsmen need to do more and more often. Tripathi, had a good look at him, if he can remove the Bollywood antics when out and being overly dramatic, he could be a great player for our T20 side. I dont think Hooda is good enough for our team and an opportunity presents itself for another batsmen here. He should have bowled last night. Game was over, him bowling in a bilateral final is good preparation for a WC. Arshdeep responded well, glad I changed my mind about him. Vijy and ZEIV 1 1
speedracer Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 Still not convinced by arshdeep. Doesn't hit the pitch hard if swing wears out. I don't like such players. zen 1
Stuge Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 India needs to stop playing players who are coming from long injury playing directly in International matches . They should play couple of domestic matches before being allowed to play international. tweaker 1

I am sick of the idiots saying that SKY doesn't perform against quality faast bowling despite thrashing SA in Perth. SKY has inexplicably failed against Pak thrice.. Just whack them next. Sky is great but they are not wrong, under pressure in important games he has failed, 4 times in a row against Pak, failed against NZ in the 2021 world cup, bar one knock against SA he hasn't got much to show for.
