Pant played in world cup semis. What did he do there, not knocking Pant..Inzi played only handful of matches before his 1992 semifinal knock.

 There was nobody there to be groomed.

you can't play someone straightaway in WC that too semis.

 

Anyway he did score a decent 30 odd under severe conditions after 3 early wickets. So not a complete failure.

 

Ideally Dhoni should have taken the job as he had waned as big hitter/finisher. But even then there were better options than Rayudu.

No there was no good  player, only one IMO who got a raw deal was Iyer, he could have a been groomed but his weakness against short pitch bowling worked against him.

 

Dhoni was done as a player in 2015, in ideal world Dhoni should have been kicked out after  2017 CT and let Pant take over Wk just like he did in tests.

 

Dhawan getting injured also did not help.

 

How many matches did Rohit got groomed before he hit that crucial 50 in 2007 t20 vs SA. One off matches you don't need grooming.

 

Collis King never got groomed but he played one of the most important knocks in world cup finals.

 

Playing DK was a crime though.Anyone is better than DK under pressure.
