We know what stress fractures can do. The best swimmers in India are getting top facilities but if they still can't make it then it has to be the fact that they are not good enough. Nobody expecting Gold from them but just couple of bronzes would be a good start. But they are not reaching that level also. Some exceptional talent has to rise in swimming somehow ( Neeraj Level) to rekindle some kind of excitement back in Indian swimming. bharathh, randomGuy and Sgattick10 1 2

True - but we had Pullela Gopichand who started the revolution in the game with his coaching. Heard he has become too commercial now though as he only works with the stars and there is noone to build the next set of people which he used to do earlier. Padukone's academy has not churned out even one worthy person.

They have the best India can offer.

They have the best India can offer. best in india is till not best compared to competitors - swimming is a very expensive sport dominated by first world countries. same with cycling, canoeing etc. those bunch of sports are the last we'll crack. India sending a large contingent means we are serious about swimming. It took Chinese years of investment when they started competing with powerhouses like US Australia... We need to pump in more money than ever before to be a force in Asia at least. It's not a easy thing to do.

I have seen in kids in villages swim all day in ponds and rivers just need some talent scouts to spot the good ones and give them proper training and diet. I am surprised to see Malyasians doing well in artistic swimming & Synchronised events... They are there at Olympics as well & medal contenders in Asia. We have to look what are they doing... It should be doable in the short term.
