They realised it was a mistake and hence they changed this from second game onwards. Jadeja batted at 6 post that throughout. Sundar batted at 8 and then moved up to 7.
vvvslaxman Posted August 18, 2025 Posted August 18, 2025 Regardless of where he batted ever since they included him India competed way better. They lost just 1 test that too by 22 runs thanks to unusual India's batting collapse. Competed well in all the other tests. He adds value to the side. Nobody can dispute that. If Kuldeep is added he will add value. But not at the expense of Sundar.
StraightDrive26 Posted August 18, 2025 Posted August 18, 2025 India can play Sundar and Jadeja at the expense of a batter as they both are good enough to play as batters alone in the XI. The biggest issue for India is to find a pace bowling all-rounder who can score runs and also give effective 10-12 overs a day. Since Kapil Dev, India haven't been able to plug that gap. Irfan Pathan did that for a brief while but his bowling declined rapidly and he was dropped. Pandya could have been that for India in Tests but his body doesn't allow him to play the format. Now we have Nitish Reddy but I am not convinced about his bowling, his batting after his first 4 innings lacks consistency as well. If India can get one pace bowling all-rounder to play along with Sundar and Jadeja, it will be a very good playing XI. Jaiswal Rahul Sai (wouldn't discard him yet) Gill Pant Jadeja Sundar Kuldeep (if in India or on dry/flat wickets overseas), pace-allrounder/batter Pacer 3/Axar if in India pacer 2 (Bumrah overseas) Pacer 3 (SirajO

Both Sundar and Jadeja are super clutch. In conjunction with Pant they form a dependable core. We may find more skillful batsmen than these 2. But you can't buy clutchness. That is something either you have it or not. Any all rounder that replace one of these two in overly fast bowling condition must meet this criteria of delivering under pressure. Lord 1
Majestic Posted August 19, 2025 Posted August 19, 2025 India need to find a way to maximise the runs scoring potential of both Jadeja and Sundar in Test cricket. They play test style cricket and batting at 6 or below forces them to end with a lot of not outs. There is nothing to boost about being not out at end because all your scores only matter till the final wicket is not taken. India did well by moving Jadeja up at 6 and I feel they can try and play both Sundar and Jadeja at 5 or 6. Lord 1

It's a shame we couldn't make his bowling a match winning effort!
